Depends really TM....if they have lived together then some couples want to absorb the cost as it saves mum and dad having too much input!

When we got married we were lucky that my parents sucked up the cost of the wedding and his the evening do....no mean feat as there were 250 during the evening.

I guess nowadays its whoever can or want to chip into whatever if they dont go down the traditional route...it seems very much as if perhaps both sets of parents contribute an amount which is then perhaps spent by the B&G as they see fit.

Perhaps Mhoc has some words of wisdom...I think she's facing a a wedding soon.

Can I ask the Elite what the current protocol is when your children marry......who pays for what these days?

I promise this is not for me....I think my two are years away from that but a friend has asked me and I haven't got a clue.

If you have a son, should you offer to contribute to the wedding?

Any advice will be passed on:)

    Off for a catch up

It's so long ago for us that I can barely remember. I think we were given money by my mam....as I'd already lost dad:o and we were told we could do whatever we wanted with it....ie a modest wedding and buy stuff for the house too or a "big do" with nothing left over. I think my in laws paid for the evening do if I remember rightly.

We went for a very modest do:)
