Thanks, I just had a read. I think I will arrange to go with a neighbour who gets these... so I don't make any mistakes! x
Also worth remembering that horse chestnuts are generally a couple of weeks earlier than sweet chestnuts. Good idea taking someone with you but you will not forget easily once you know.
It is hard for me to understand how people cannot tell the difference, I have been foraging all my life for things like chestnuts and blackberries. Never touched mushrooms though. A horse chestnut would give you a stomach ache and you would only eat a bite of it because I am sure it would taste horrible. A poisonous toadstool can kill.Westvleteren wrote: »Morning folks!
Last week of freedom before heading back to Uni. Seen my timetable a bit busier than I expected but hoping that it works out less as 1:1 tutorials become the norm...... Also ditched my dissertation proposal and starting from scratch with absolutely no ideas
Don't think of it as starting from scratch with absolutely no ideas, think of it as going into it with an open mind xx You will get there, because you WANT to.What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -

Morning, for all those trying to use up there runner beans, this is a lovely meal. Traditionally made in a Potjie Pot on an open fire (like a cauldron) but can also be made in a slow cooker.
Green Bean Potjie.
(this makes a lot but it is equally nice, if not better, heated up)
1kg minced beef
4 double handfuls of sliced green beans or as many as you like, the more the better!
4 chopped onions.
packet of bacon, chopped
2 handfuls of grated cheese (I don’t always bother with this)
1 cup light soy sauce (can use less)
Gravy granules
Quite a few peeled potatoes cut.
Pepper, salt isn’t needed as soy sauce is salty enough.
In a frying pan brown mince & bacon, add onions and brown. Put in slow cooker.
Place potatoes & green beans in layers on top of mince, add soy sauce, do not stir.
Switch slow cooker on to a long setting of over 6 hours.
When potatoes are done add some gravy granules mixed with ½ cup water, add grated cheese and pour into SC, cook for another hour or so. It’s difficult to judge how much bisto to use as it depends how much liquid there is in the pot but the rice soaks up any excess liquid.
Mix well before serving with rice and crusty bread.:)0 -

Have you still got your receipt WMC? You can claim now for Asda
Funny you should post as I've just this second e-mailed COS to claim as I now see it's available in store. I wonder if it was an error?
Might even re-submit the receipt, but it will probably come back as 'already submitted' due to the yoghurt claim which has already been processed.
Thanks for noticing/remembering0 -
Good morning all...
I hope Rhos is around as something's been rattling round my head all weekend about her DS and his computer science A level....I haven't had time to join in the general chat but I do have some words of wisdom to pass on .
If I were he then dont do the computer science A level either at college or night classes....its outdated before it even begins in terms of what they learn as by the time they finish the course new stuff and technology has replaced it....thats why lots of places are no longer offering it.
Our DS wanted to do GCSE originally with a view to A level but the school dropped the A level 2 years ago as it just isnt competitive and current any more...it seems most other places are now seeing that it actually has little place in the workplace so its being phased out.
If he has a major desire to do something computer based I would suggest that he either waits for workplace training that is current to whatever they use or pick some generic word or graphic courses etc...
Having just gone through the whole Alevel thing I would say just stick to his subject choices rather than trying to do added things to be a "super hero"....A levels are more difficult than GCSE by quite a jump up and the workload quite demanding...its better to do 3 well rather than try 4 with middle grades if university is his eventual aim.
I dont want to sound like the prophet of doom and I also know that trying to change the mind of a teen who has something locked in as the way forward is nigh on impossible ...but just wanted to share a few thoughts as someone who's been through it
And For what its worth I actually have an A level in computer science...it has been no use to me whatsoever a workplace environment...I took it back in the late 80's and even then the core subject was becoming outdated.
Employers like a basic knowledge which is why the GCSE is still ok...but actually the skill you need is on job rather than anything gained from a textbook....most children today have a far broader knowledge of the whole computer side of things than any A Level will provide in it....it was in danger of becoming a subject that would be ranked along side General studies.frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!
