A couple in the shop today were telling me about their tortoise. Neighbours had left him behind to fend for himself when they moved away  and he roamed the front gardens but kids used to throw stones at him and damaged his shell, so they took him in. This was when they son was just born, and he is 36 now, so Fred as he was called, is about 40 years old. They took him to the vet for the first timer recently as they spotted worms and, as well as giving him worming and vitamin injections, he also announced that FRED was in fact FREDA :rotfl: :rotfl: They said that he comes when called and is a very happy tortoise :D

I know that bank savings interest is no longer taxed at source and I had just about got my head around the £1000 tax free interest that was allowed - buy I thought that interest from shares would still be taxed before I got it. I've realised today that it isn't and that I will have to allow for it as part of the £1000. I have absolutely no idea how I am going to be able to check whatever the tax crowd try to grab back off me - my tax stuff never ever worked out as it should when I was SE and I have no faith in the tax office getting it right now.

I have not had a good day !

Ah, thought it was odd, as thought it was your weatherspoons, never seen an empty one yet.

  • This is the only poetry I know off by heart...

There’s a famous seaside place called Blackpool,
That’s noted for fresh air and fun,
    And Mr and Mrs Ramsbottom
Went there with young Albert, their son.

A grand little lad was young Albert,
All dressed in his best; quite a swell
With a stick with an ‘orse’s ‘ead ‘andle,
The finest that Woolworth’s could sell...
    .

Oh, too many happy memories remembering this:D My granddad used to recite this, with me on his knee, changing the names of the parents and the little lad to my mum and dad's names and my name:D:D:D

That is a lovely poem and very special.

I think it is strange how somethings we remember forever. I can still recite all the words of Squeeze 'Up the Junction' and all the words of one book I use to read the boys when they were little...it was a rather long story in poem form..... the boys often start this story off and another one will finish it.

I can only ever remember one joke....... this was because my sister told it at the Christmas dinner table with the 92 year granny there.... the joke was rather rude!
