if anyone sees in one of the sales a nice sofa throw suitable for a 2 seater sofa please can you let me know - very cheap
the sofa is a bland grey colour and he seems to have 3 flat cushions so it needs a bit of cheering up

If the budget can stretch to it, might be worth thinking about some bright 'n' cheerful covers for the whole sofa (and existing cushions), made to measure. I did that for mine - well, sofa and armchair; very comfy, too comfy to throw out, but a horrible 70s-style floral pattern. So I got a local sewing guru (through a friend, but also worth asking at your local fabric shop as they often know of people like that) to come round and measure everything up; she made some really well-fitting covers (two sets, one lighter colour, for summer, one darker for winter) plus matching curtains. I bought the fabric, based on the amounts she specified, but the total cost was still quite reasonable.

I am so glad you feel excited about DS being excited about uni - it really is a joyful time of their lives, I think of it like opening the door of the cage and letting your little fledglings fly free.

The full poem that this quote is from (and hankies at the ready, for any parents with children leaving home for the first time)

    'Walking Away', by Cecil Day-Lewis

It is eighteen years ago, almost to the day –
A sunny day with leaves just turning,
    The touch-lines new-ruled – since I watched you play
Your first game of football, then, like a satellite
Wrenched from its orbit, go drifting away

Behind a scatter of boys. I can see
You walking away from me towards the school
With the pathos of a half-fledged thing set free
Into a wilderness, the gait of one
Who finds no path where the path should be.

    That hesitant figure, eddying away
Like a winged seed loosened from its parent stem,
Has something I never quite grasp to convey
About nature’s give-and-take – the small, the scorching
Ordeals which fire one’s irresolute clay.

I have had worse partings, but none that so
Gnaws at my mind still. Perhaps it is roughly
Saying what God alone could perfectly show –
How selfhood begins with a walking away,
And love is proved in the letting go.

    Beautiful.

When you said 'Love is in the letting go' it reminded me of this:
