Evening. Been struggling to keep up properly on here for the last week or so as been a bit stressed with something going on at home. :o

Cowboy builder type scenario, although to do with garden work carried out to a very poor standard, and some ever increasing bonkers facebook messages to me about it as I have dared to complain about it and have held back money.

If there is anyone on here with legal knowledge about that kind of thing and the Consumer Rights Act 2015 I would really appreciate some advice. The helpline provided by citizens advice/trading standards was not that helpful when I called this morning, and only told me what I had already found from google.

Hope everyone is well. I know di had good news, aj is still recovering, fc is off to be locked up soon and bubbs is on her holidays, but have skipped so much I've probably missed a lot. Sorry. :o

Ladyshopper, that is awful. I really hate bad workmanship, I think it should be called robbery!

    :o:o:o

So sorry to hear this LS:o

You aren't being intimidated are you? Just wondering what the bonkers messages are.....
I'm pleased you've held back money.....does what you've paid so far cover the work they've done?

There's always the small claims court..... are you putting your complaints in writing?

I think the problem with rogue traders is that they are not bothered about their reputations or the mess they leave behind:o

Not intimidated as such. Told today that it was offensive and disrespectful that I have complained, apparently no-one have ever complained about their work before, and that I have brought on her depression and anxiety. :o

I have held back 20%. I think the problem is that they cocked up their figures up and are now panicking because I've held £700 back. There was also an issue in that something that was quoted for didn't get done because they'd underestimated how much hardcore they needed, and were running at a loss, so just didn't do it.

Very difficult situation, know the ladies who own the business, one is in the same line of business as me if you catch my drift, its her wifes company. They've done work for me before but very very minor. They didn't actually do this, sub contracted it out, but honestly, it is shocking.

TM I forgot to say - all of our communication has been by facebook messenger, so I do have everything in writing. I am in the process of drafting a formal letter.

Again, a complicating factor (it shouldn't be, but with what happened with my friend passing away a month ago means I've struggled to separate it) is that one of them is going into hospital this week for a mastectomy. Because of this I have been super nice right from the start, too nice for my own good really as I now just feel like I've been completely taken advantage of and walked all over. If they want that money they'll need to take me to court. I'm in the process of getting some companies in to quote for what needs to be done to bring it up to an acceptable standard. I'm just worried that £700 won't be enough as it is honestly awful. This was such a lot of money for me t pay out, and quite an impulsive decision, very unlike me, and its really come back to bite me. :(

    Mornig All,

    Thanks for the info above.
I've already purchased the official lay z spa mat for it to go on, £30  from homebase.
The spa is going to go under our kitchen window as that is where we are feeding the new socket from. I might be able fix a hose to the mixer tap and fill it from there or failing that fill a bucket and chuck it through the window.
We are on a water meter so it could be quite expensive for us to run (but looking forward to using it).
I'm sure you will love it but don't envy your water meter. As DM says we have a shower before we get in just to get rid of perfume, body lotion etc. If you can fill it off the hot water I think k that would be more economical we worked out that to heat the water up from cold was £7 and it's about £1.50 to fill it off the boiler.
If anyone is near York, and fancy a little trip out..

I'm going to the guildhall in Preston tomorrow night to see kindly leave the stage, it could be worth a look if anyone is local and registered.

I think that their reaction to you is unacceptable, if they made a mistake they need to absorb this and do an excellent job.

I would have refused to pay anything, and had the work finished off properly and then figure out what the difference was and pay this.

A few houses ago, we had roof structure put on... god they were cowboys and the OH did not say anything to them (sometimes he can be spineless!). One lad disappeared mid job.. as he was sent to prison. I complained and they kept coming back and doing some bits (including trying to line up the struts with a chain saw, it took months for them to complete it to a satisfactory standard.. and in reality they replaced all the triangles (left us with loads of wood in the garden :T:T) at which point they insisted that we paid...not flipping likely, I sent a cost analysis and a bill for what they had cost us.

We got a nice letter apologising, wiping the bill and a bunch of flowers... My advice is no matter what they say/do, do not pay the money until the job is finished totally x

The only one I could find sal was Mcvities Digestives 500g
    A £1 but £1.90 for 2 in W:o

Nah, too expensive for digestives. Over 85p a pack:eek: and having to buy two!* I had thought you'd meant the Chocolate Digestives that I saw instore in A at 2 for £3 and that they'd gone to £1:( but they haven't. I did see some Stork Original (500g) at £1.09 A vs 88p W. Not the worst price possible, although these days I expect 1Kg for £1.35, so almost 80p for what should be 67.5p:rotfl:. (I think we'd never buy anything at all if we stuck to my guide prices - how can anyone now consider the Stork margarine knowing that they're paying, IMO, about 12p over the odds:rotfl:?)

*Digestives should be, well... about 10p for 500g if my purchase of a packet of 250g Hovis digestives for 5p for M is now any guide price:rotfl:. (Those were not short-dated either - I don't know why they were reduced on a reduced shelf.) Even M Digestives 400g at 35p (on mbuy) work out at 43.75p each adjusted to 500g (without any 10% but just buy straight in M), so the McVitie's are more than twice the cost even after APG vs W's offer:eek:! I know it's McVitie's - but, let's face it, they are all the same except they don't have the word "McVitie's" embossed into them aren't they?:rotfl:
