    Thanks for the link.

How that term takes me back! I can still hear my dear dad's voice using the same term (probably after pleas in my student days....)

As I typed it I could hear both my parents' voices. :rotfl: Thing is, as a student I really was broke! These days most students seem to be rolling around in cash on a scale I could never have contemplated. The other day a friend was complaining about having to bankroll his student son, who treats his girlfriend (also a student) to dinners in the sort of restaurant where you meet your lobster before you eat it. :wall:

Actually, my parents were pretty generous, Dad with the cash and Mum with food parcels...and (should I blush to confess it?) I used to have dinner in the restaurant car on my way back to college......

The dear dead days beyond recall...;)

I had been led to believe that my backdated deferred payments and new revised weekly payment would be made on 24/06/2016, but of course they weren't! I gave them an extra week but still nothing so on 01/07/2016 I phoned again. My 'choices' decision still hadn't been processed, so the person I spoke to said that she'd email the relevant department and tell them that I had phoned to query non-payment. She seemed to think that might speed things up. I suggested that I would check again in a week's time and she told me that even if they acted immediately on receipt of her email the payment would be unlikely to be made within one week - more likely two.

Have they not heard of the 'faster payments' system?

My first phone call was made on 03/04/2016 and the earliest date for the correct amount to be paid is now 15/07/2016 - a period of more than 3 months. Should I request interest on the late payments? HMRC charges interest on late tax payments ...

When I asked why they were not managing to meet the 'official' deadlines, I was told that the beginning of a new tax year is always a busy time as that is when a lot of people want to change their pension payments.

I retired at the end of April and I had hoped that my pension payments would have been paid up-to-date by the end of May so that they would replace my salary. It's just as well that I have emergency savings to which I have instant access.

I'm sure they have but the problem relates rather to delays in administration as described by wolv?
  • The saga relating to receiving additional pension due to deferring my state pension for 3 years has finally finished! Earlier this week I received the 'missing' amount backdated to 29/04/2016 and yesterday I received the correct weekly amount. Date of first phone call: 01/04/2016, date of correct weekly payment: 15/07/2016, total number of weeks: 15.

It IS a long time to wait, but starting earlier won't necessarily speed things up - as mentioned in previous threads, the 'choices' part doesn't start until you actually receive your first payment, and it's likely to take up to 11 weeks after that to get everything sorted.

That isn't what the letter says that we got about my father in law though.

His pension started to pay a couple of weeks ago. The first payment was bigger, to backdate it to June 6th. The letter said he would get another letter about money owed, (15 years worth), within 15 days of the date he claimed from. I take that to mean June 6th. It's now July 16th, and no further communication received.

I rang them about 2 weeks ago and they confirmed because the deffered part is dealt with another department, there is no quicker way.
The thing that annoyed is there is no mention on the website, so until I saw the info on here I would have presumed it would all be paid at the same time.

Yes, that is what's annoying - the lack of information, and also the fact that when you claim (which I did by phone) they tell you you'll receive the choices letter within 15 working days of the date of your award letter. Presumably the people manning the phones are well aware of the delay relating to the deferred pension; it would save a lot of grief if they told it like it is rather than trotting out a fixed script.

...and I'm still waiting for the choices letter.
