    Wheelie bin?

I managed to get rid of a VW beetle engine in a wheelie bin, it made a right racket when it dropped into the bin wagon..

wheely bin costs £50 to replace. i wouldnt throw a 200kg engine block in there. it will damage the wheely bin when it is lifted up by the refuse truck

    A Beetle engine isn't 200kg.

Especially if its just the main body of the engine with all the ducting for air cooling removed it will be quite compact as well.

Independent garages tend to have regular scrap metal collections as they throw a lot out. If you're friendly / regular customer with one, ask what they do and if you could leave some old car parts in the pile.

If there's a lot, you could weigh it in, not sure what the price is for light iron at the moment. I got about £20 when I took a cut up car shell and other bits of car totalling 240kg down to Sims at Avonmouth.

No it doesn't, if I want a new wheelie bin, I drive to the local refuse facility, ask one of the staff for a new bin and for the price of a [STRIKE]donation to charity[/STRIKE] few beer tokens, I have a new bin.

Ps the wheelie bin wasn't damaged in any way, not sure why you think it would weigh 200kg it was nearer 90kg, the replacement subaru engine was a tad heavier but had other benefits.

I doubt many car engine blocks are, certainly not for your average European car, that's double my weight, I remember when I was younger and a 10 stone weakling, myself and a mate removed, rebuilt and refitted A 2.0Ltr Mitsubishi Gallant engine block easily using a strong pole, some straps and our own muscle power, no engine hoist, for us to be able to do that I wouldn't image that block was even 100kg.

Has no one mentioned freecycle? Even if you just list a load of unidentified parts someone will probably take them in hope of finding some rare or valuable parts. Either that or put on the freebies section of Gumtree. I find people bite your arm off for anything free on Gumtree. Just ignore the ones who will expect you to deliver them for free as well though!
