Getting rid of car parts

Hi,

we moved to a house that was ex rental, loads of junk in the shed that the previous owner cba getting rid of, we just agreed because we didn't want a load of back and forth between solicitors and the house was already a bargain. Didn't want to quibble.

However, on closer inspection a large part of the junk is car parts, headlamps etc, also some seats and what appears to be a steering column

We're not mechanically minded so we've no idea if this stuff is in working order, but the local tip doesn't seem to take this stuff. Did look at a site called Anyjunk but they didn't specify if they took car parts or not, didn't want to contact them as they require a phone no and I don't want to be giving that out. Anybody used them for car parts?

Or is there any other legal solution to get rid? I really want to have a shed I can walk into. Thanks

    eBay? Gumtree? An autojumble?
  • Thanks. I don't want to do ebay/gumtree as there are rather a lot of parts and most of them I don't know from a hole in the ground, or if they even work at all, not to mention factoring in P&P -as in I would have to go to the post office every 5 minutes.

I'd like to get rid of them in one go if possible.

Do you live in one of those posh areas where you don't get the tatters (scrap metal collectors) coming around?
  • Sadly not, the funny thing is we used to rent a house in a 'posher' area and there was a guy coming round for old iron about once a week

Would they take stuff that wasn't 100% metal though?

Depends, I'd show them what you have and let them have what they want, it'll at least reduce the pile.
  • Thanks, I'll ask around the neighbours. Or else I might have to load up the car and loiter around our old house

The local tip certainly WILL take 'em. The fact they're "car parts" is irrelevant. They're metal, they're plastic. Just lob 'em in the right skip.

Skips don't take car parts. I tried taking a bare door to mine, metal all the same, wouldn't take it - 'we don't take car parts' 'why, it's scrap metal' 'it's our policy'

It must depend on the individual tip or council. Ours will take car parts except wheels and tyres.
  • Give them to a local indi garage for free?
