I found the original paperwork from 1997. During this time ( basically very young and never dealt with any of this before ) we took out a mortgage and TMPP. We were basically led to believe that we should have this otherwise the mortgage might not go through. This has always been a major grip years later as I know it wasn't req and I could have arranged something else if we wanted to.
Fast forward. In 2012 I did make a phone call to Halifax about this and a few days later was basically given a generic no ( well I cant prove otherwise can I? )
Found the letter from 2012 this morning which basically said the advisor acted fairly and we didn't have to take it ( not what was implied at the time, again verbally ). Latter stated they had investigated and consider it final ( unless I can give any additional information ) and if I was unhappy with that I could write to the financial onbudsman. I didn't as I took their decision as not worth persuing. This was a letter from a CS person at Halifax.
They also say that the TMPP I took out in 2004 I did not make any payments on ( I must have stopped the original one at some point before 2004 ) however I have statements that say I did make some payments.
So my question is is it worth me sending off to the Fin onbudsmen again via martins form or should I consider it a non starter?
I would really like to see the chap from Halifax make amends and its annoyed me for 20 years now.
CR
I took out my mortgage in 1997 as a sort of endowment. In 2004 I went into the Halifax desperate for a loan and came out with an increased mortgage by a 1/3rd, a fixed repayment rate with TMPP which hardly cost me any more than I paying.
I sent in my Resolver case using the TMPP no from 2004 which I had assumed to be the same from 1997. Only when I received my first call did I then recall the change made in 2004 to my mortgage overall. The guy said he would have to open up another case for the 1997 one.
I had about three phone calls in all, which all involved me, not remembering any detailed information, but asserting (all of this is true btw) ;-
1) I was under the impression that getting the mortgage (or the additional amount of money) depended upon taking out the TMPP
2) for much of the time I had a job with 12 mos notice and didn't realise that I could not claim if I had been paid for a notice period. In 2006 I was made redundant and it struck home then what a waste of cover it had been
3) In 2010 when I was out of work, I started claiming. But I didn't realise that to take any job, even a part time one, would mean that the money would stop immediately. I couldn't find a job then that paid out anywhere near as much as the redundancy paid, but as aresult lost opportunities to work my way back up into the line of business that I worked in .
As mentioned, still to this day I have received no documentation about the money that was put into my account. If the taxman asked me about it, I would not have anything to evidence why I got it! I now assume it was for both the 2004 and the 1997 case but did wonder for a while if another large sum would end up being paid straight into my account!
Hope this helps0 -
Does anyone know what the code "INS1" means when used by Halifax Building Society?
I had a mortgage with Halifax between 1983 to 1989. In response to my Subject Access Request, they sent me 21 pages of statements covering the mortgage the advance, yearly interest, every monthly repayment and final repayment. I was amazed because I had not thought they had been so computerised back in those days. The statements included regular payments coded "INS1".
I sent Halifax a mis-sold PPI complaint questionnaire. Halifax rejected my complaint. On the telephone, they said "INS1" was probably household structure or contents insurance, not payment protection insurance. I disagree because I had my household structure and contents insured separately with Royal Insurance. I made a Subject Access Request with RSA Insurance (current owner of Royal Insurance) but they said their records do not go back that far.
I am thinking about pursuing my complaint against Halifax with the Financial Ombudsman Service but need to prove that "INS1" means payment protection insurance. So does anyone know what "INS1" means?0 -
INS1 covered any insurance paid via the mortgage. Most common was home insurance which back then Halifax included within the mortgage and was not standalone.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0

Instead, this is home insurance. The Bank have already told you that it's not PPI.
You'll get nowhere going to the Ombudsman with such "evidence", I'm afraid.0 -
Don't know where you stand, but I kept being told that I didn't exist etc until an employee let slip about the Archive Dept. Also took several weeks and phone calls, but finally sent partial records for me to check thro. Now gave appt with local branch for help & they send evidence internally (saving me postage?)
