Very old Halifax mortgage with PPI

  • Answer: YES!

I've come on here because a couple of weeks ago I received over £5k on an old Halifax mortgage. I submitted it through the Resolver thing Martin offers, answered a few questions on a couple of subsequent phone calls and suddenly found the money in my account!

What I came on to query was the lack of any accompanying letter! I've had nothing! It wasn't even an offer, just paid straight into my account and it was only upon checking my balance that I became aware of it!

    Is this usual?

I'd keep the discussion on the forum if I were you ...
  • It was more about how to fill in martins forms tbh lol
  • ok then if anyone can offer advice here?

I found the original paperwork from 1997. During this time ( basically very young and never dealt with any of this before ) we took out a mortgage and TMPP. We were basically led to believe that we should have this otherwise the mortgage might not go through. This has always been a major grip years later as I know it wasn't req and I could have arranged something else if we wanted to.

Fast forward. In 2012 I did make a phone call to Halifax about this and a few days later was basically given a generic no ( well I cant prove otherwise can I? )

Found the letter from 2012 this morning which basically said the advisor acted fairly and we didn't have to take it ( not what was implied at the time, again verbally ). Latter stated they had investigated and consider it final ( unless I can give any additional information ) and if I was unhappy with that I could write to the financial onbudsman. I didn't as I took their decision as not worth persuing. This was a letter from a CS person at Halifax.

They also say that the TMPP I took out in 2004 I did not make any payments on ( I must have stopped the original one at some point before 2004 ) however I have statements that say I did make some payments.

So my question is is it worth me sending off to the Fin onbudsmen again via martins form or should I consider it a non starter?

I would really like to see the chap from Halifax make amends and its annoyed me for 20 years now.

You've left it too late to go to FOS.
  • Why is that? Would Halifax have written to them?
  • No. It was your job to write to them - but you needed to do it within 6 months.
  • As I said. I again took Halifax at face value with the info I was given at the time.

    Fair enough.
  • I am trying to sort out one of the same age from the Halifax but they have rejected it. How was it mis sold to you and what evidence did you have. Mine is all heresy and they are saying they have no paperwork.
