Fencing nosy neighbour-long one!!

You have a right to privacy, so put up a solid 2m close board fence and just ignore them. For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.0

Agree with the above.
A fence will make you feel a lot better (and although they don't know it yet, it'll probably make the neighbour's life better too)0 -
its horrible when you get those neighbours that they complain on everything. We are on a semi but our neighbour that on the other semi is lovely. They always tell us when they have a party and they turn music down from 10pm. They tell us when they holiday and let us use their drive. On the other hand people moved in on the other side of the house that we heard nothing but complain even when I was trimming my trees. She was banging on my gate shouting that I was disturbing the birds. We have an iron cast chimney in our garden and she complained she has asthma and her washing is out on line. She washes everyday and her washing is out everyday though. So it means I will never enjoy my chimney. Our garden is like just short of an acre too lol. So really it shouldn't affect her asthma or washing but she is always on my door complaining things. Then she calls council and we have a ban order now from using the chimney. So we are trying to pay off our mortgage and move somewhere more private with no neighbours lol preferably on a sea side. Wherever you go, there is always that one person though!!0

Keith, Drp you're right also- I am too considerate and I really need t work on my fear of confrontation! They really do have no power over us, and as everyone has said we're entitled to fence to land.
Dermonte- I am so sorry you're n a similar situation, it really does just mess with you all the time doesn't it. Last night (hoping one off) they went out side laughing and yelling (4 oaps) at 11.30 and I am just so annoyed with them, but like you we want to sell, so need to avoid anymore disputes. Any it's subjective I guess, what annoys one person might not annoy another. Sorry about your chimney, doesn't seem right you can't use a feature of your home? Not like you're a chemical plant or coal mine?!0 -
chimney ban? That seems harsh. How is it worded? I have smokeless coal for mine and it says its allowed in smoke controlled zones so maybe worth considering.
And good luck OP, I think you've been more than accommodating, time to stop them ruining the enjoying of your garden and get that fence up. You may have to hear them complain but at least you won't see them!0 -
They just sent a letter explaining there was a complain for our regular fire in the garden and sent a leaflet that says if any neighbour dispute they can fine us up to £5000 even if we do barbecue. we don't do regular fire by the way. Just odd fire in chimney and sitting chilling around it. We have 2m fences up too but every time we are out in garden they come out too and feel like watching us. They are just weirdos I think with body piercing and tattoos all over themselves too and riding one wheel bike. Who does that!! Oh she asked me why I don't do washing as I never hang my clothes out in garden. I said I have a dryer. Then she says she doesn't even have a washing machine and washes by hand. Also mentioned us having 2 cars. She sounded like jealous.0

I'm sorry but the above is nonsense:
Outdoor ovens, burners and barbecues
You can use outdoor barbecues, chimineas, fireplaces or pizza ovens.
Any of these appliances that release smoke through a chimney of a building - eg a summerhouse - can only burn authorised fuel or must be exempt.

I know its nonsense but they wouldn't even listen to me when I called them to explain that its a chimney and we don't use it regularly like they claim and not bon fire like they claim. Honestly it says in the leaflet if a neighbour dispute even with a barbecue they can fine us. I should find that leaflet to show you lol but building work going on in my house and my kitchen is in my living room right now. So just forget it as it upsets me even talking about it.0
