My Dad has pretty horrendous gout and apparently cherries are good for it  anyway, the reason our family started using Lidl was because my Dad was told about their cherry jam! That was years ago and Mum and Dad now shop there regularly, my sister and I go occasionally.

We all buy the cherry jam, it's delicious and I totally agree, MUCH better than other, more expensive, brands (especially melted and poured over roast duck ;) )

I've never tried but I suppose you could use this lovely jam in place of the far more expensive cherry pie filling. Might be a bit sweet but worth a try.

Just remembered another Lidl bargain. Raspberries in a jar, they have them near the tinned fruit which is also nice, especially the big tins of apricots.
And another thing, tins of butter beans cost about 20p. I mash them with a bit of leftover mashed potato and make little patties which dip in flour and fry.

Lidls cranberries in syrup (also in a jar) are lovely too especially in a meringue nest. Can't remember the price but about 79p I think and much cheaper than the posh brands in other supermarkets.

I don't see why not. I reduce the jam with a splosh of red wine, quarter a roast duck and pour the jammy sauce over the top. In the same serving dish I put new potatoes with butter and mint sauce on. The jammy sauce at one end, butter and mint at the other, all mix together in the middle....YUM!!!!

    Sorry...digressing there

Funny, I was in my local Lidl looking for butter beans just the other day and couldn't find any... must look harder!

I am pretty sure that the pesto in Aldi is nicer and much cheaper than the ones sold in sainsburys and Tescos!

Definitely, and for the price you can't beat it along with their carbonara sauce.

And the parmesan cheese is really good as well considering you get a whole block for 1.99, oh and their parmesan risotto.

And the frikadellen burgers and meatballs are tasty as well as their salmon with butter and dill.

It's absolutely excellent. Sometimes we go and get:

    bratwurst
    pasta
bacon bits (2 packs for 99p, can't beat it)
    carbonara sauce
    parmesan

Make the pasta. Cut up 2 of the bratwurst and fry it along with 1 of the packages of bacon bits, add it to the carbonara sauce. Add that to the pasta, grate some parmesan over the top, bung it into the oven and it makes a great pasta bake that usually lasts for a meal and then lunches for my OH and I the next day. Very cheap and tasty.
