I'm sensing that we have a Jaffa Cake obsession here
Enough already!Just run, run and keep on running!0 -
I love Aldi for my basics, great for fruit & veg-I find Lidl's never lasts as long.
Aldi nappies are as good as Pampers babydry for nights & Lidl nappies are as good as Pampers active fit for day (I know cloth would be more economic but they are not for me).
Aldi & Lidl both do great cheese & onion pasties & they only cost about 30p each.
I use Aldi beans & they are my favourite, very tasty. I also use Aldi/Lidl chopped tomatoes/kidney beans etc with good results.
The best bargains have to be Aldi biscuits, they have real luxury cookies etc for 50p ish. Their jaffa cakes are to die for, the best I have ever tasted (& believe me I have tried a lot), they got something like 10/10 in a BEST magazine taste test, sometimes they have other flavours such as raspberry but sadly not often enough. A great thing is they are dairy free which I need for my daughter & yet they only cost approx 70p for 24.
Aldi farmhouse bread & batch loaves are really nice too.
Aldi lemonade is gorgeous & really lemony, not like the Tesco Value crap (which is OK as mixer though). My mum in law is a real snob & will normally only buy Schweppes which is a quid a bottle & she couldn't believe she could get 4 bottles of this stuff for the same amount.
I do not work for them honest.0 -
Tesco's own brand Chilean Sauvignon Blanc at £2.98 a bottle. It's recommended by Malcolm Gluck, extremely good and yes, I'm usually a bit of a wine snob.
Bought it with economy in mind for a boozy night with friends and everyone was so impressed that we ensure that there is always an emergency stock of it in the wine rack.

Tesco value UHT milk comes in simple containers without complex pourers. The clever pourers always leak.
The standards for milk are so high that is doens't matter whether it is value or ordinary.0 -
I've converted to Lidl for lots of things now. My favs are
- the chewing gum; a sachet of 30 pieces in Honey & Lemon flavour sugar free for about 55p, and they are yum.
- porridge is really tasty, it comes in a little green packet and I think is around 34p or so.
- bread stuffed with sunflower seeds etc - beautiful toasted.
- Their dishwasher detergent is excellent - and I hate to admit this but I recently ran out of detergent for the washing machine and used the Lidl dishwasher stuff for my clothes, but it has been doing an excellent job, so I'm going to keep on using it for both purposes. I can't remember how much it cost me as it has lasted ages but I do know it wasn't very much at all.
- Cat litter...£1.89 for a 10kg bag & it's the clumping stuff...so much better than Tesco value stuff and even cheaper anyway.
- Crispbread is good too...it's called Milky and is the same size as Ryvita but only costs 27p.
- Fresh pineapples..89p - though need eating v.soon after purchase
I bought some of their body lotion, the Cien stuff...it was vile, thick and sticky so it hit the bin pronto. However I tried some lavender bubble bath, only about 55p for a big bottle, and it smelt lovely and produced lots of bubbles.
Unfortunately they don't do white vinegar so I still darken Sainsbury's door for my supply.0 -
Aldi luxury meusli - 99p a box
lots of other Aldi stuff, never had anything "bad" from there
Also does no one shop at Farm Foods? Their back bacon is £2.75 for 600g and is lovely. (son is bacon sandwich freak so this comes in very handy!) - lots of other bargains too.0 -
Oooh, Lidl were looking at opening up a shop here and after reading this thread I SO hope they do!!!0

ChocClare wrote:Tesco's value Bourbon biscuits (if you can find them, my Tesco's hasn't had them for a while) are the best Bourbon biscuits for any money, and I seem to remember they're 46p per pound, which is a great way to fill up hungry kids on a car journey when they would have had unhealthy rubbish anyway (and not any more messy than crisps or sweets!)...
Ooooh! Ooooh! Put them in the freezer and take them out to dunk them! They're lovely!
I could make it better myself at home. All I need is a small aubergine...
I moved to Liverpool for a better life.
And goodness, it's turned out to be better and busier!0 -

Agree with the Aldi musesli, it's really gorgeous & I think it's a 1kilo box for that price.
I also forgot to add Maple & Pecan crunch cereal from Aldi is lovely.
Lidl's cleaning stuff (bathroom, kitchen & glass sprays) are really good value & does the job well. The limescale remover they sell is the best I've ever tried & as I live in a hardwater area I have tried most.
I also like Lidl clothes washing tablets (never tried their liquids or powders, far too lazy), they clean well & leave a nice smell.0
