Royal Mail (merged threads)

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Just hearing on the news how much profit Royal Mail have made this year and their claim of meeting delivery targets, Where, in outta Mongolia? I have had nothing but a sucession of temporary posties(some of whom are not even wearing any form of royal mail uniform) Who constantly post letters for any street with a number the same as mine within a mile. Big difference between Lane and Hill Road including postcode. I have had to go into my building society to confirm my address as my statement was delivered elsewhere and sent back, I have had credit card statements not arrive and then been charged late fees because of this(sorted out after) but still with the aggro of having to deal with it. There are two letterboxes on my front door for two different properties and all the post normally get shoved in one box. Which is no good to me when the tenant downstairs only comes home once a week. Complaints are meet with "your delivery has been supervised and we have not found a problem" crap. I have even thought of picking up my post but there is still no reason to believe that my post will be sorted properly in the first place and will not be sent elsewhere. How dare Royal Mail say they are meeting targets, I bet the Director gets his post first thing and not at 4 in the afternoon. Anyone else had problems or is it just me? Anyone got any answers, I give up

I've noticed that it is quite easy for things to get trapped at the bottom of mail bags - I found the odd thing myself when we were filling them. It would get put back in the post. The problem is, if something gets trapped in the bottom of a mail bag it can be there almost a year or longer until the bag is used again. You can shake out a bag, think it's empty and its not, there is something hiding in a corner - not much you can really do about it - it's just one of those things. I never worked for Royal Mail, used to use their services frequently in my previous occupation.

Mail has been known to get caught and or lost behind frames, ie sorting frames, as well as stuck in large mail bags. I had worked for Royal Fail for 14 years so I have known from experince. There has bene occasions with staff (very few no doubt) ahve taken mail home for dishoenst means, I believe that is very rare though. All work places have thieves, and RM is no different.

    Hi Shrek

I have friends who work for Royal mail and some offices are a lot worse than others. I, in no way think that all missing post is being nicked by posties and can see how some things can get "caught" in bags etc. The problem with mine and many other rounds is the fact that everyday there is a new "temporary" postie and its the fact that they post the letters anywhere and everywhere just to get rid of them. I have had a driving licence, Bank statements, mobile bills and various personal mail for other addresses that are at least half a mile down the road. The only thing that is the same about mine and theres is the door number! They obviously have no supervision when they sort the mail and still dont get it right when they deliver it. Complaints are poo pood and I am told I basically have to put up with it as they have no staff. At least 40% of the mail I get each week is not mine. I always put it back in the post box the same day, some people dont bother. Although someone kindly returned my bank statement back to head office with "not known" written on it(which I wouldn`t be as it was addressed correctly but delivered to the wrong place) which meant I had to go and show proof of address at my bank and it looks like my credit card statement will also be AWOL again this month, its in inconveinence of having to phone(Call charges) and then sort out the late fee(more charges) which the CC company will only do a certain amount of times. I know when mine is due and have had to call them for the last two statements for a copy. Its when Royal Mail announce billion pound profits and bonuses of £1000 to each postie when the service is crap? I know someone who applied for a permanant job with royal mail and it took 18 months for them to start. Just doesn`t seem right that the Director gets a big fat bonus and the service goes down the drain. At the very least have I not got the right to worry about who may have my CC statements and use the info in the wrong manner and at the very worst Royal Mail is inflicted on us without a choice and on top of that are lying about the service they are providing? I have asked various people in the playground and they all say the same thing. Where do we go from here?

I have to give royal mail the thumbs up!!

I haev never had a problem with royal mail, all letters i have sent have got to their destination albeit sometimes a day late. As an earlier poster said, every business has thieves however it is much more noticeable when an individual outside of the business is affected.

I have a great postie, whenever i see him we have a chat and hes a really nice guy. I strongly believe that RM is doing a good job, alhtough maybe it could do better, on the whole i am happy:)

    n:)

I agree mariauk, it's no good for customers to put up with a service where the customer feels that mail goes astray, I have had several times over recent years where mail hasn't come to my address or I have received mail from someone in a nearby street who has the same number as me.

I don't see why because a service has low staff that the customer should have to suffer, although I do accept that are occasions like all businesses where there are occasions where this cant be helped.

Royal Mail are well known these days not to train staff, when I first started I was shown around for a few days on a new route, this didn't happen over the last 4-5 years.

I sometimes think customers though don't realise the difficulties when delivering mail, sometimes customers don't have a number, or are in a difficult place to find, however this is very bit more reason why staff should be trained, so that they know the route.

I believe many postman prefer a regularly route which not only gets them familiar, they work more efficient and the customer benefits too.

Totally agree with you Shrek but my house is situated in an inner London borough and my house has been here since 1898 ;) and hasn`t even been on holiday, lol. Seriously It seems like there are big problems at my local sorting office because everyone is complaing, it just makes me mad when directors get paid bonuses when staff get laid off and the service you get is crap. My worry is the fact that whoever is receiving my CC statement could use the details in the wrong manner and at the end of the day I have no choice in who delivers my mail and complaints get a standard "there is nothing wrong with our service" replies. Who is going to do anything about it? Postwatch welcome your complaints and make sure you get your book of stamps but what about actually improving the service that we pay for? It will never improve if they dont admit they have a problem. Even Fiona phillips was complaining on GMTV about her post only arriving once a week and late afternoon most of the time, and the royal mail rep said "oh we will have to sort yours out, we can`t have you complaining on TV everday" Do you think if I change my name they will sort things out for me :D We have no other option, why should we have to put up with the lies and bad service?

big thumbs down for the Royal Mail from here I'm afraid (our regular one is good, the rest are useless) ....they deliver post Monday-Friday sometime mid-afternoon....and on Saturday at +/-7am....anything that has to be signed for Mon-Fri you get until mid-day on Saturday to pick it up...and if you don't get it within 3weeks back it goes to the sender....sometimes less....sorry am I the only one that occasionaly takes holidays and can't drop everything the moment I get back to dash into an office to pick up post???!!
