Usually the airline will give you an allowance on the spot in these instances. Specifically for your immediate needs.

Well, when I arrived at my destination (South Africa) I was met at the gate by an employee holding a sign. I thought it was my car service, instead, he told me my bag hadn't left Doha, and that it would be on the next flight. I had others with me and the car service arrived so I just left the airport with them expecting it to be delivered to my hotel as stated within a few hours. It didn't arrive till almost 30 hours later....by which time I had bought stuff to wear and had the travel clothes laundered.

Just a word of warning. I flew this route with Qatar, and with a stopover of roughly the same time. I made the flight, my bags didn't. If you google it, this is a very common thing on short time Doha connections. I finally got my bag almost 2 days later. So, from that perspective it may not be all bad.

Just curious - did you really route from Manchester to Doha to Bali and then to South Africa?

According to Qatar website, 1 hour 5 minutes is do-able:
The minimum connecting time between Qatar Airways flights in Doha is 45 minutes (60 minutes for flights to the United States), this allows sufficient time for your transfer as well as the transfer of your baggage to your onward connecting flight.

I would still be sending them a copy of my receipts or at least a list of my costs and a request for reasonable compensation.

I meant Manchester - Doha, which was where the connection issues arose. SA not Bali was my final destination.

My connection was about that, but I only just made it and my heart rate suffered!! So, what they say is do-able and the reality may nt be exactly the same!

No need for investigation. If Qatar offer it, it means that there is ample time.

You'd have thought so but I came a cropper from Rio to London via Lisbon with TAP once. The flights all left on time but we were advised at check-in in Rio that we wouldn't get the connection. Fortunately we only had a two or three our wait for the next connection.

    That's odd....

Yeah. They didn't give any explanation either but we just accepted it.

Hi all sorry for the late response and thank you all for your comments!

After 3 weeks of complaining and going back and fourth with Qatar and STA they have finally agreed to switch me onto the later flight. Although the lost luggage is a concern but not something I can control now anyway!

Really appreciate all your advice. Thanks

As expected. Shame they took so long over it. Next time book direct if there is only a small price differential. Don't worry about the luggage. It will be fine :)
