Yes I'm afraid there's a growing crowd of people that think if the oil light isn't on, it must be OK and never check it. My nephew, sister-in-law and hubby to name three family members and two of those have a degree.

Just back from the shops, oil levels still good (checked before I drove off) but EML light flashed a few times there and back, managed 60mph but I drove cautiously.

Will just drive it to the train station and back (2.5 mile round journey) instead of my usual commute (60 odd mile round journey) until the D900 OBD2 reader arrives, hopefully tomorrow with express delivery!

It does seem like it might be another ignition coil, driving the same way as when the last coil went, which from what I can gather means that its running on 3 cylinders?

Garage is fully booked for a week and don't want to take it to Kwik-s**t.

Will keep you all posted as to what the error codes are.

But they probably do learn about the use of oil to lubricate two pieces of moving metal parts.
    Also Wikipedia disagrees with you
Mechanical engineers design and build engines, power plants, other machines...

They could have previously had a car that never used a drop between services, both my Vauxhalls didn't, the present Suzuki and Nissan don't. The Ford I had before didn't once I changed the valve seals (still got the tool somewhere for the CVH...)

You don't expect to have to get your hands dirty in the 21st century ;)
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

Well then why is there a dipstick on nearly all cars and lots of oil for sale at motoring outlets? Why does the car manual tell you to check your oil level on a regular basis? If you have the above attitude you will get an unpleasant surprise!

There isn't, on many newer cars.

The D900 OBD2 reader isn't connecting for some reason.

I've made a youtube video with the car.

    Heres a link

Would appreciate further feedback, and will get it into a local garage on Friday.

    Thanks Folks!

Well that's an interesting colour of green anyway.
Doesn't look like worn bores as you would get blueish smoke when revved like that
It actually sounds like a diesel. Is there a hole in the exhaust?

Thanks, yeah it's quite an unusual colour, called coniston green, theres another identical one about 8 miles from me by the supermarket though!

It's a 1.4 petrol, but like you said is sounding quite diesel-ish the last few days.

I've not been able to have the car lifted to look underneath it, if I stick my head underneath it in the morning, would I be able to detect a hole in the exhaust if that is the issue?
