I'm struggling to choose!!! Please help!
I don't use the internet much but do want fibre as the broadband line is 1Mps.
SSE £21 you get free landline calls and 76Mb
TalkTalk £21.81 you get free caller display & voice mail, 40Mb
None of these factors bothers me.
But: Are SSE likely to increase there linerental from £16 soon? or have they just increased it? I guess this is the main concern. Surly it isn't going to stay at that price for long! Do they have an RPi increase clause?
After the 18 months SSE is more expensive. But I should move.
Please help me choose based on performance and reliability etc.

Do those prices include line rental?
What realistic speed do you think you will get with fibre?
BT have just put up their line rental so the others will follow shortly.0 -
TalkTalk FibreYes that includes rental, but with talk talk you have to pay £291 up front to get the price that low.
Talk Talk say my minimum guaranteed speed will be 30Mb. (or typically 40Mb)
SSE say minimum 61.9Mb but maybe that is just the package as I don't have it in writing.0 -
OtherMy question would be pay up front and decide to move advanced line rental lost .0

TalkTalk FibreSorry JJ. What is your question ?
I'm locked in for 18months, so may as well be locked in at an agreed LR price.0 -
OtherYes agree if you are locked in all round .0

I have just upgraded to fibre with Talktalk but previously they only allowed 12 months rental in advance.I did not know they were now offering 18 months in advance......perhaps it's only for new customers.
I was originally quoted a speed of up to 38Mb then when I got the confirmation letter a couple of days before the upgrade they revised it down to a much lesser figure.I am only getting between 7 and 8Mb.0 -
TalkTalk FibreThank you. A good warning.
What speed did they quote? Can you leave?0 -

I think it was something between 5Mb and 15Mb which is a huge difference from up to 38Mb.
Anyway you can get out of the contract up to 20 days after they accept the order.
I let it go because they gave me a good deal and I am still getting double the speed I had with ADSL.0 -
TalkTalk FibreWould I get my line rental back ?0

If you only need something better than 1mb then chances are you will be happy with either solution.
You will find things to fill the bandwidth, you need to check out your area and find out what speeds people are geting. The lower 5mb speeds tend to be in places that are oversubscribed.
I hate TalkTalk so I would lean towards SSE out of the two, I read elsewhere on this forum that they throttle speed for certain traffic (P2P) which TalkTalk don't do. May not be an issue for you but if you decide to use any service that needs more bandwidth the issue will arise.
I would go back to talktalk and say you are being offered same deal but with double the fibre, so will they give you 78mb for same price or reduce the price of the dealThanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !0
