Definitely a win-win situation and better than watching the telly too.Gordon Brown ate my hamster0 -
HSBC/First Direct are the only bank to include such a sneaky no interest clause. It's obviously intended to catch people out. Why the government haven't done something to outlaw this sort of sharp practice is beyond me, it's tantamount to fraud.Krusty & Phil Madoff, 1990 - 2007:

HSBC/First Direct are not the only ones to have such an account and the clause is listed in the key features of the account - not hidden away sneakily.
Though there are always some people who will be caught out by not reading any of the terms and just concentrating on the interest rate..

Why should we always have to be on our guard against perfectly legal but sharp practices.HSBC/First Direct are not the only ones to have such an account and the clause is listed in the key features of the account - not hidden away sneakily.

Why should we always have to be on our guard against perfectly legal but sharp practices.
Because it is legal and you can't expect someone to protect you every time you want to buy a good or service.
One must remember that 'caveat emptor' or 'buyer beware' are the basis of a lot of laws in this country..

What do you mean, the interest rate's crap too. IMO this is a deliberate ruse by First Direct to rip people off.
If the rate is poor (I have no idea) why would people open that account in the first place..
If the rules are clear enough, legal and not hidden away, you can't blame an organisation for enforcing them..
