Why do I keep getting rejected for a Tesco Savings account?
Comments

@colsten sorry typo. I meant to write "account" not "card". I applied for the Internet Saver, nothing else. (7 months ago I applied for the current account and two savings accounts and was rejected for all 3). When I complained to head office 7 months ago they told me the same thing: "I didn't meet the criteria". When I asked for information on the criteria they told me they couldn't tell me. Bizarre.
Needless to say after this latest rejection, I didn't bother asking anything more other than the generic blurb they gave me. They're just a waste of time and wasting my time.
Gocardless here I come, woo!0 -
@frank777 yes that's the one I applied for and was rejected for twice! One last year and yesterday
. Tesco really don't like me do they?

There is something that they don't like about your report but it's not your name and they are under no obligation to tell you what the problem is.
As much of a nuisance as this is for you there's nothing that you can do about it so my advice would be to put it behind you and move on.0 -
@Ballard There isn't much else I can do to be honest

Right so I've just called Gocardless and they've told me I can't use their service in this way, to collect direct debits. That's a bummer!0

Oh no......if all else fails, play the good old 'race card'....0 -

"Even weirder is a similar letter from HSBC that was sent to Anas Al Tikriti, who runs an Islamic thinktank. This time no explanation whatsoever was given. His wife and two sons – one aged 16, one aged 12 – got a letter too. Whatever the youngest Mr Tikriti has been spending his pocket money on, it’s hard to believe that a small boy falls outside the “risk appetite” of Europe’s largest bank."

"Increasingly, banks and building societies are refusing to do business with “politically exposed persons” (PEPs). Long-established customers have had their accounts closed down and even their relatives have been told “computer says no” and refused access to banking services in Britain."
So, nice to meet you, Mr. Saddam Hussein.

@scoot65 Read the articles Pincher has posted. I am not paranoid. Unless you are non-white, you will never understand how it feels like to be discriminated against because of your race and skin colour.
@Pincher good links. Gives me some consolation knowing I'm not alone. I do wonder if Tesco is institutionally racist.0 -
Do you live in a flat.
Tesco had real problems verifying my flat - their system seems to struggle with the format.
I simply could not open the account online even though I already had a current account and credit card. Just seemed to affect the savings application - not the others.
Maybe its not you - but your address?0 -

I tried to open a tesco savings account 7-8 months ago and was rejected without reason. Escalated it for more information.
I thought i'd try my luck again last week. Applied for the account and I got a letter in the post saying they needed a proof of address. I called them asking what exactly they needed and on the phone the lady said they'd decided to decline me from having the account. I can't get my head around why I am being rejected for a savings product. I merely want an account where I can save money in!
Can anyone think of any reasons why someone would be rejected for a savings product? I have a good credit rating with a lot of savings, but I can't seem to get a savings account with Tesco of all banks!
Cheers.
I've had similar problems with Tesco in the past where I've applied for a savings account online, it's referred for further checks, then got the ID verification letter through the post before getting a further letter saying they couldn't offer the account as they couldn't confirm the application details.
Turns out it was the fact they couldn't verify the linked account details I'd put on the application as I'd only recently opened the account so it hadn't appeared on CRA databases yet.
Have you received a further letter saying you've been declined as that should have at least one bullet point indicating the reason?0
