Too much LPG gas delivered

Wondering if anyone knows where I stand.
Ordered £400 of LPG gas in April, logged on and bill for £417 I then promptly paid.
Today an invoice for that delivery of £600 turns up, on my questioning it they say that £417 was a predicted amount, the delivery was out sourced to another company and they mistakenly delivered £600 worth. No apologies, just a request for payment. Have no proof of how much they delivered other than their word for it.
I have said I didn't order it, I dispute I was delivered that much therefore not willing to pay.
Anyone know my rights? Thanks

There has to be a way of telling how much is in the tank as you would run out when least expected, You can create with them and hope that they waiver the difference but chances are if they do you may be hard pushed for another delivery here.0

We have a gauge which isn't too easy to understand as I don't know what the units are, just know from it when I am approaching red and need to order more. I would have more inclination to be helpful but they were so rude straight away before I even disputed it.0

They should have a gauge on the delivery tanker, and when I purchased from (different) companies I was provided with a printout of the meter readings, start and finish. Have you asked for a delivery receipt to prove how much they actually delivered?0

Maybe asking here would get better advice?

First, I think the gauge on your tank will read from 0-100%. Tanks are not filled more than 85% full. Your supplier will know the size (volume) of your tank ...so if you give an accurate meter reading they will know how much is needed to fill to 85% and calculate the cost based on the price you're charged. Sure you may use some gas between order and delivery - but it sounds you had half as much again as they thought you needed. The meters cannot be read accurately but I've never heard of that size of discrepancy!
As Lady Dee says the tanker's meter will print out the volume - and the driver will put this through your letterbox (or maybe leave it under the tank hood). The tankers' meters are calibrated and tested.
I can think of 5 possibilities for the discrepancy. 1. you misread your meter seriously. 2. You used a lot of gas after ordering and paying. 3. The supplier used the wrong price to calculate the cost. 4. The supplier used the wrong volume for your tank (i.e. they calculated the amount needed to fill a smaller tank than you have). 5.The tanker's meter was faulty. I think the last is the least likely.
Whatever the reason suddenly owing an extra £200 is a shock!
If an extra £200 is a problem for your budget why not ask if they'll let you pay in instalments this time?
Good luck with getting this sorted. Remember they want to keep your custom when your 2 yr contract is up!

Whoever delivered the LPG will have a copy of the printed output from the tanker printer, however it does (usually) require the driver to put the correct details on the slip, usually the address details are written on, however the delivery amount is typed by the tanker delivery pump printer.
As has been said, it is usual for them to post the counterpart of the ticket through your letterbox, they should be able to provide a copy of this slip showing the delivered amount, and should be able to supply this copy on request.0 -

Surely if their suggestion is correct (and if so I would have hoped the first invoice showed it was only a provisional or estimated bill), then you should only owe £183 (£600 - £417 paid)
If you have actually received £1017 worth of LPG instead of the £400 ordered, surely you have a way of identifying this?
Reminds me of the old days when you would buy your cheese at the cheese counter.
You saw it was marked up 50p per lb, and you asked for 4oz. Some young kid (probably his first day) cuts off a chunk and asks if 35p worth is close enough
Edit: for those too young to understand, there are 16oz in 1lb0
