Sky TV price increase

Sky just took their monthly fee from my account today and is increased by £3 from last month going from £47 up to £50. I'm absolutely incensed, it wasn't that long ago when I cancelled HD saving myself £10 a month. It seems they are absolutely intent on getting as much money out of me as possible.
I'm not the greatest haggler in the world, but I think it's about time I tried it out. I don't know quite how to go about it though. I simply ring them up and tell them I'm not going to put up with the price rise and am going to leave. However they could call my Bluff which will obviously leave me looking rather silly. Or do I say I'm going to go over to Amazon because I can get a better deal. Just wondering what your thoughts were on which tactics I should use?

All Sky prices have increased and I, along with all Sky subscribers, was told about the increase a couple of months ago. You cannot compare Amazon with Sky as they do not haggle, and what you get for your money is considerably less than you do with Sky. If you still want some of the Sky products then have a look at Now TV. You will still be paying Sky though as they own Now TV.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. How long are you in contract for is the key question .0

Depending on the services you use with Sky, Now TV can be considerably cheaper.
Probably not for sport, but you could also look at BT TV.
With Sky (and most haggling companies) you need to have a plausible story of leaving - for example describing a change in circumstances or the detail of a competitor's better offering.
It would be an idea to examine posts and blog entries here and elsewhere that give you an idea of what Sky will offer so you know when to say Yes and when to say No.0 -

If you've already cancelled HD, then NOW TV sounds like your wisest and cheapest option, given that the content is very similar but only in standard definition.
I take it you don't have Sports?
There is already a huge thread on this forum offering a wealth of information and tips about haggling. I recommend you read through that.

If you're prepared to do without and stick to your guns and leave you'll soon find the offers rolling in (assuming you are out of contract).
I left a year ago (no real intention to go back as i'm not a cow to be milked).
After 1 month of leaving i got a sorry letter and would i come back at 25% off for 6 months on everything.
At 3 months it was 60% off everything for a year.
At some point after that they offered a 32" LG TV to come back.
This last month I've had 2 x 50% offers on everything on any package.
They only are really interested when they realise they are going to lose everything.0 -

It's the same with Netflix. You need another service as well.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Why have a story ? Just cancel.0 -

I did an 'audit' of our channel viewing and then we discussed what programmes we could not do without. That showed only Sky Living and Sky Atlantic were in the 'cannot do without' category and, as both those were available on Sky's cheaper Now TV receiver, I bought one of those (with an included 3 month Entertainment pass) for £14.
So, a Sky bill of £33/month would, after 3 months, become £6.99/month.
Freeview and Freesat continue to provide most of our viewing but then I bought a Kodi box .....................Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
As has been said before on many threads...if you don't want Sports in HD AND have a decent internet connection speed, then no need for Sky packages...several viable alternatives!0
