I got 4.68 to the £ last September in resort form the Garanti bank ATM, not quite as good at the moment. defintley take sterling and change in resort will get loads more than in UK, or get the Halifax Clarity card and just with draw from ATM when ever needed like I do.

I've never done AI but I assume you'll need very little cash at your hotel. I'd agree with what others said about taking sterling and changing it as you go along. We got in the habit of changing money daily when inflation was rampant but that's not so necessary now.
It's easy to change money in banks, post office or shops. If you take commission into account you get much the same rate and as shops are open all hours they can be more convenient.
I'd agree about the heat in August so please drink loads of water. Lots of people complain about 'Turkish tum' when they're just dehydrated.

you're not going to get asked any questions about what you put on your e-visa, its either granted or its not, if its granted you just print off the reference number and put it with your passport. And that will be all thats required when you go through passport control at the airport in Turkey.

When i applied for ours last year it was easy, you fill in the details, pay your money and print off a document with a 2D barcode on it, though IIRC somewhere in the process you have to wait for an email and follow the link in the Email, that said we were all done start to finish in 15 mins max.
I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world

We came back last week. Fantastic place, but very quiet and the locals are so worried about the tourists decline this year. No Russians at all due to political situation. We never once felt unsafe, it's a great place to go and prices to go are super cheap at the moment so bargains to be had. Can't wait to go back.

Our passports were scanned on arrival which showed we had visas. The officials didn't even look at our paper copy.

Take sterling with you to change in resort, much better rates than at home.

We did loads of trips and ate out every day. It was so cheap. You may want to factor in a few meals out even though you are AI.

It was so so quiet, I felt sorry for the locals who rely on the tourist trade.

It was 32 degrees when we returned on Monday - August will be boiling. We didn't get Turkish tummy at all whilst we were away (family of 5).

Have a great time. I can't wait to go back.

fantastic, thank you. Yes I will be well prepared for August, lets of factor 30 to 50 to start off with and I drink loads of water anyway so will make sure I up my intake and I think the items that will weight the most in our bags is all the tablets and potions! I've been quite lucky in the past but hubby tends to get a dicky tummy (usually because he isnt looking after himself properly). Was it Manavgat you were staying where you said was quiet or do you mean Turkey in general?

Just came back from Turkey. I did not put in my parents names on the e-visa. You don't even need to print and take it with you. They were not interested in my little bit of paper.

You need Lira in Turkey. It's very easy to convert currency if needed.

It's as well to print-off, just in case the immigration computers at the arrival airport are 'down'. That bit of paper might just get you through immigration a bit quicker than all the pax who've not printed their visa off.

Agreed, for the sake of a couple of pieces of paper and a little ink, I wouldn't leave it too chance either.

The FCO Travel Advice states it too...

    https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/turkey/entry-requirements

"In case of problems with the computer systems at the Turkish port of entry, print off and carry a paper copy of your e-Visa, or make sure you have an electronic copy on a smart phone or other device to show to the immigration officer."

If the computers are down noone is getting through immigration quickly and I would have had in my phone even if I didn't have a printed copy. I'm assuming most people would too but if printing it gives you peace of mind, print it.
