keeping a TSB Debit card live for Contactless

i have for the second time reached a point where i can't use my TSB debit card for contactless purchases.

have almost done this month's £100.. arguably it's not worth bothering with, but it's quite nice to rack up an easy fiver.

i know it has been discussed before, but is anyone able to confirm what is needed to get the card 'live' again?

does it have to be a C&P purchase?

does entering the card into a cashpoint work, or can we confirm that it doesn't?

Do you mean that when you attempt to make a contactless payment it asks you to enter your pin?

To answer your question you just need to try and make another contactless payment and if asked for your pin number put it in.

This happens to me, but can just as easily be at the end of the month as at the beginning. All you have to do is enter your pin for that one transaction. Annoyingly at the beginning of May I had a few pin entry requests back to back, but since then it has been OK.

I've used it for a balance or mini statement in an atm after every few contactless payments and this seems to have avoided having to enter a pin for a while.

    i do, yes.
but i don't want to make a 'Contact' purchase at all if i can avoid it.
that's why i'm asking, to try to establish exactly what needs to be done.

If you have an iPhone, you can use ApplePay, on which your TSB debit card is always live.

I can't confirm that a chip/pin transaction or an ATM withdrawal would revive the contactless feature. I know I have had a PIN request at a supermarket self-service till, even though the previous transaction had been an ATM withdrawal.

It has been reported in another recent thread that if you try to pay contactlessly, but are asked for your PIN, the transaction will earn TSB cashback as though completed contactlessly. I haven't tried this yet.

why not? It's an excellent way to use your TSB contactless card whenever you like.

In addition, it might help to spend exactly £100 - I just buy a £100 Waitrose gift card now with ApplePay each month and then use the gift card at the checkout.

If you don't shop at Waitrose: you can use ApplePay anywhere where contactless is accepted. And you don't even have to carry your TSB debit card with you, so nobody can fraudulently use your card as it can't be stolen or lost (assuming you have a safe place to keep it at home). It's the bees knees.

All you have to do is walk around to the nearest ATM and use the 'PIN Unlock' facility. Then you're good to go.

I do this every month prior to making my contactless purchases and, since I started doing that, I have never once had a contactless rejection.

In my own experience (Lloyds Bank) requesting a mini statement at the ATM was enough to get my card ready for contactless again but I guess it varies on the bank?

As for Apple Pay (and I appreciate it's something OP isn't interested in) I've had instances where the PIN terminal wanted me to enter my PIN (as is standard with contactless payments) so we're not quite ready to ditch the wallet just yet.

pin unlock or mini statement at a halifax ATM on way to work has not stopped the pin being requested, but a cash withdrawl has. So not sure if it depends on the type of ATM.

The contactless transaction that fail and request a pin have not earned me any cashback.
