I've just rang them as I had a letter through that I need to ring them to let them know if I want to renew, and was told I can't do anything until 30th June.
It seems since 30th May it is no longer possible to renew over the phone, but can open a new Monthly Saver online or in branch after June 30th, and will get the 5%. They couldn't tell me what % i'd get in branch.

Wait... I never knew about this. 5% on £250 a month?
I can open one now and get the 5% rate for a year or is it not fixed?

Yes you did. Or at least, you would have done if, as you said you had, you'd read the link I posted:cool:

What do the T&C say about fixed/variable? To make it easier for you, I've enclosed the relevant link;)

On the detective trail there badger.

I'm thinking a new crime series called badger and xylophone, trawling the Internet forums looking to resolve queries and inform the public.

Not sure which would be the good cop and which the bad cop though?

Nah, I really don't go in for that very often:o

Its just that there are a few posters who regularly appear, fire off peremptory questions, seem reluctant to read links, or T&C, and rarely acknowledge assistance given.

I'm prepared to make an exception in their case:p

I can't and wouldn't even try to compete with xylophone when it comes to helpful links though:T.

I just rang our local branch to ask a question about opening a current account and asked about the abovementioned suggestion that the monthly saver rate is to drop from 5% to 2%.

The young man was very surprised, saying that staff are given prior notice of such changes and he has no information about this.He said he has a special interest in this account, as his is soon due for renewal and added that as they have recently spent money on the 555 adverts, they are unlikely to change things soon.

The Lloyds saver rate has, indeed dropped from 4% to 3% and they are part of the same company....

Don’t forget they now have another 5.

You get 1% on any spending on the TSB mastercard credit card up to a maximum of £5 a month. So they could keep 555 without the regular saver – or is it now 5555.

5% up to £5 on contactless payments a month
5% interest on classic plus current account balances
1% cashback up to £5 a month via their credit card and
    5% via this regular saver.

Are they separate, now ? If so, that's good as TSB won't be tied to their policies.

I haven't seen any ads,but wouldn't they mention the original 5%s (ie current account, saver and contactless), so be obsolete if there is change ?

There's a distinct lack of "adverts" or even mentions of '555' on their website.

Even a google search only brings up 3rd party reviews of '555', and the only TSB google hit relating to '555' points to the TSB press release last year in their media centre.

So I'm not sure where they've spent their money on "adverts"? Press?...Buses?...branch windows?
