Mis sold first class flights?

Me and my wife purchased what we beleived to be First Class flights to New York in November, the price was great (almost too good to be true) and we wanted to make the trip that bit special so went for it, even though we had to change in Iceland.
All throughout the booking process the class on the tickets were First Class, including in the confirmation page at the end after we had paid.
Having received the email confirmation for the flights however the class on the tickets has now changed to economy. I'm assuming this will go 1 of 2 ways.
1. They made a mistake on their website and charged economy prices for a first class ticket, as I beleived I was entering into a 'contract' to purchase first class tickets, and therefore have been technically mis sold the flights, I will be entitled to a full refund.
2. They honour the first class tickets despite the low price.
Obviously I am hoping for option 2 and my question is, do I legally have a right to make them honour what I have been led into thinking I was buying in the first place whether it was a website mistake or not?
I do have pictures of the booking and the price showing the class as first class as we tried re booking the same flights to make sure it wasn't us that had made the mistake.
Thanks

Is the booking direct with the airline or through an online agent?
Can you see a single letter 'fare class' anywhere? e.g. F, C Y M etc?Evolution, not revolution0 -
It was through STA travel so not direct.
I can't upload the photo as proof its not letting me add links or images as I am a new user.0 -
Did you pay by credit card ? I don't know if they would help if it turns out you are downgraded to economy on check-in, on the basis that you didn't get the service for which you paid.
There are experts in credit cards on here that will shed more light...
Another thought - I believe the departure tax is a lot more for first class than for economy - do you have a price breakdown that shows how much the tax is, so you can check which class it is for ?
Good luck in getting it sorted.0 -
But it does clearly say the flight class is First class on all of the flights listed.0

Yeah it was through my Credit Card, I only booked them last night so I guess in the worst case I can use my 14 day right to cancel. Or open up a dispute with my credit card company.0 -

That was obviously never going to be first, as you might pay 6-10 times that figure.Hello There. :beer:0 -
I expect this is a fare class problem as IcelandAir do not operate a first class cabin (they have nothing higher than Business class)
It may be that one of their economy fare buckets is used by other airlines for First
The flights and prices you saw were likely always economy flights but advertised incorrectly by STA so your complaint is with them and I would expect a refund to be in order
Business class for 2 people would be £3,000+0 -

Yeah thats what I thought.
In my head I knew it was too good to be true, but in black and white right in front of us it said Frist Class so it had to be worth paying for incase it was.0
