Ok so last Saturday Night I went out for a few drinks with some friends etc...

Me & my mate went to a Link cash machine in the wall..

My mate (Lloyds)
Me Barclays.

My mate put his card in typed his pin in & asked for £60 cash machine only gave him £40

I asked for £60 Machine said sorry there has been a problem with this transaction please contact your card issuer.

So me & my mate went to Santander Cash Machine I got £60 (No Problems) & he got £20 out then stayed out till 3.30am got home about 4am..

On Sunday morning when I woke (Hungover) I Checked my online banking & the £60 got debited from my account for Cash machine that didn't work so £120 went out when I only wanted £60

My mate got his £20 back from his bank today.

Barclays said it will be credited back tonight/24 hours after it happened next working day if not come see us tomorrow.

So Should I get my money back?? Will it take ages..

Yes, they'll just check the machine data. When you ask for money the machine puts the notes onto a tray, makes the tray available to you, then updates the ledger to say you had money. But, the tray is also weighed. When they check they'll see that you were offered the tray, but the tray weighed 0 grams, so they'll know you had no money.

It's something they do quite often.

Happens to me with a cash machine outside asda in November last year. I stood in front of the machine so no one could use it, incase it was 1 of the cash machine scams and rang the bank, had my money back in no time. I bank with Halifax

Although deciding to use an ATM that had just paid out less than had been requested seems a monumentally stupid thing to do, so I can only assume that your cash top up was required mid-way through your evening in the booze and you weren't entirely sober at the time.

Certainly sounds like the ATM ran out of money part way through you mates transaction.

You should have no problem getting the money returned, it happens ;)

Sounds like you still managed to enjoy the evening :D

Thx I thought there was problem with my mates card/account so used cash machine (Stupid me)

Did have a few drinks at home before we went out

I went into bank on Monday they told me to wait 24 hours next working after use ATM to see if money goes in

Went back Tuesday about 4.40pm after work. They said they got no one to deal with me at that time & said sorry for wastinng my time & to come sat (Work Mon/Friday) or ring bank up

So I rung Barclays up when I got home & spoke to lovely man who delt with my claim & said should 100% get my money back in about 3 days & to ring back Monday if not got it.

It now Friday & still no £60 why are they taking so long? Will £60 go into today??

Thanks I will wait till Monday morning (when I wake up) if I have not got the money by then I will ring again to ask when I will get my money back.

If they don't deliver & won't refund me the money will leave Barclays as my mate who is with Lloyds got refund on Monday

The thing is, your mate's problem was different to yours - he had a partial dispense whereas you had a failure to dispense. So that may be a factor in the different way in which the refund has been processed - if he got his on Monday that sounds to me like it happened through automatic reconciliation, that didn't happen with yours so Barclays are having to do it manually, which will include some time waiting for information from Santander.

Having said that, it really should have been sorted by today, so if the money isn't in your account on Monday I would make a complaint, which may get you a few quid goodwill payment on top of your refund.

Hello, I fall into the similar situations many times. Call representatives and demand your money. Perhaps it will be a long process, but it is their responsibility. Defend your rights!

The OP has spoken to the bank and they have advised him it will be with him by Monday. They added that if it wasn't he could ring back.

The audit of the ATM will confirm the OP's mis-dispense and be corrected on his account.

No need for any demanding or defending of rights.
