Barclaycard Lifetime Ban

A friend of ours got into financial problems and BC took out a county court judgement against him in 1984 and the debt was eventually cleared in 1987. However when things improved he applied for one of their cards again in about 1998 and was accepted and has been with them ever since and has had been offered credit limit increases. So not sure when this this so called life ban came into being based on his experience with them.0

The difference is your friend settled the debt whereas OP just waited over 7 years for the default to no longer show on his credit file. He didn't actually settle the debt.0 -

Well he said he paid lowells some years after, so he may think he's settled it, when in fact barclaycard sold it on at a low fraction of the headline debt and lowells made a nice profit on the transaction.0 -

Not necessarily. I went bankrupt in 2009, with Barclaycard being one of my creditors. Applied for a Barclaycard, one month after the BR came off my credit file, and was approved, with a high credit limit. The current limit is £10,000.
It's difficult to know what criteria Barclaycard use for former debtors, as some are approved and some rejected and the amounts owed appear to be irrelevant.
I'm just grateful that they gave me another chance, as their Cashback duo cards are pretty decent.0 -
The issue with the phone calls could be down to two non native speakers trying to communicate in English.
In terms of your default then if you paid lowells some time after your default the debt will probably have been sold on, so Barclays have accepted a low percentage and lowells will have profited, Barclays have still lost money on you. I wonder if you have actually completed the application correctly, it would make sense to not offer you credit but the fact they offer and withdraw might indicate that you are missing out information on your initial application.
If you have good limits elsewhere then why bother with Barclays in any case?
Your credit file isn't great if you've got a default, you can th and kid yourself but it reality it isn't.
Who told you my English is poor?Don't be radiculous.
When I called Barclays ,I can hear their voices but they can't hear me.So I ended up making many phone calls but their customer service trying to pretend they can't hear me.I checked my phone by calling my family and they said its OK,we can hear you.
I settled my account with Barclays many years ago through Lowell.I thinks eight years ago.
Anyway thanks for help.:T0 -
