WARNING: EasyJet methods now the same as RyanAir

You are fortunate to have a range of choice of carriers on the route(s) you travel, to be able to develop such disdain for both easyJet and Ryanair. All this came as a complete surprise to me. I am so disappointed that, I have decided that will never buy another EasyJet flight again.Evolution, not revolution0

I have never travelled Ryanair, having read about their attitude to customers and pricing and I don't agree with their approach. When I have been at the airport, I have watched their representatives methodically working the queues with their bottomless 'cabin bag', dropping it over each bag to find any bag which is more than a millimetre or so oversized, and then demanding penalties.
I have traveled with EasyJet since their early days, trusted them and felt that any price premium was worth it in not having to worry about these questionable practices.
However last week l had a rude awakening. I was met at the final boarding by a pair of uncompromising EasyJet representatives, who rather like 'Richard' Turpin, demanded £45, or else I couldn't board. My transgression was, it turned out that I had one small cabin bag, which was within limits, but also a small hold-all with my iPad and assorted cables. In the past 'one piece of luggage' had meant exactly that, and it had always been acceptable to have a small handbag in addition. (e.g. Most ladies would always have a handbag of some description.)
At first I thought it was a bad dream, and I asked if this was RyanAir. Perhaps I had just wandered into the wrong gate.
But no! It was EasyJet, and I wasn't going to fly unless I paid extra, or else if I could force the contents of one bag into the other. Unfortunately, in the short time that I thought I had available, I couldn't do the forcing, so I had to pay the 'highwaymen'.
I was not the only person forced into this situation, so it seems to be EasyJet's policy now and not a rogue customer service representative.
It isn't the money that really makes me angry. It is the way that it seems that EasyJet seems to have morphed into RyanAir, and the loss of trust.
To add insult to injury, the departure was delayed by 1 1/2 hours, because they couldn't get the cargo door shut. Having been around long enough to remember the DC10 Paris disaster, the subsequent flight wasn't without some misgiving. But, I am writing this, so fortunately it didn't happen again.
All this came as a complete surprise to me. I am so disappointed that, I have decided that will never buy another EasyJet flight again.
I want to warn others of this change to EasyJet's attitude to 'customers', or should I say to 'self loading cargo', as I am reliably informed that is how some airlines regard their passengers.
I have travelled with Easyjet many times with no problem but I only try to take 1 small daysac/rucksack with me. I do also have a moneybelt/pouch round my waist but they don't object to that.0

And it still does, so why did you take two? Most ladies would always have a handbag of some description
Yes, and I've always made sure there was room in my ONE piece of luggage for it at the gate so that when I board I am only carrying ONE piece of luggage.I was not the only person forced into this situation, so it seems to be EasyJet's policy now
It always has been, but I guess you're not the only one struggling to follow rules. All this came as a complete surprise to me. I am so disappointed that, I have decided that will never buy another EasyJet flight again.
Seems Easyjet are finally getting fed up with passengers like you who think it's OK to not follow their T&C's they agreed to at time of booking. I'm sure you won't be missed.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

Flew with Easyjet and Ryanair last year, from Stanstead and Southend and had no trouble at all with staff checking for bags.
I'd happily use them again as they are cheap with a no Frils service.0

So basically you've been agreeing to their T&Cs for years and have not followed them, but got away with it.
You've got caught out once and had to pay and now it's the end of the world.
You should have flown Ryanair. They allow a cabin bag and a hand bag:You can carry one cabin bag weighing up to 10 kg with maximum dimensions of 55cm x 40cm x 20cm, plus 1 small bag up to 35 x 20 x 20 onboard the aircraft.0

What a ridiculous post. They are both low cost airlines in case you didn't notice that and how can you compare to the other when you have never used it.0

yyes ridiculous ,slaying Ryanair , never having flown them, based on urban myth. However, as the op is a "rule bender" rather than a "rule follower" , i suspect they would fall foul of any airlines baggage policy0

BA Club class (and business class on other carriers) exists for passengers like the OP.0

I fly easyjet regularly and its hardly rocket science to remember to put my handbag in my carry on before approaching the dreaded bag gauge (and whip it back out again afterwards).Spelling courtesy of the whims of auto correct...
Pet Peeves.... queues, vain people and hypocrites ..not necessarily in that order.0

it had always been acceptable to have a small handbag in addition. (e.g. Most ladies would always have a handbag of some description.)
in my experience with Easyjet the handbag goes inside the "one piece of luggage" so it is still "one piece" (yes it's mad, get to boarding gate, stuff it inside bag, get onboard flight and take it out)...if you did not have space to fit all your contents into the allowed one piece of hand luggage then you need to check one in...simple0
