Reminds me of a colleague I worked with a few years ago. He did the "stay in lodgings during the week" bit. He didn't turn up for work for a few days. He was on contract rather than on a permanent basis. We couldn't get hold of him.

Phone rings one day and it's his landlord for the place he stayed locally wondering if he'd been in touch with us as he'd disappeared but left some important personal documents and clothes in the room as usual.

To cut a long story short, it seems he was a recovering alcoholic who lapsed and had gone off on some serious bender somewhere. He finally surfaced again having spent a week or so in hospital drying out.

Needless to say, his contract was terminated quite quickly...

I cracked up laughing when I read all your comments!!! Popcorn and wine, fantastic!!

Sorry I didn't get back to you last night.....

Well, I rang him at 8.30pm and it rang and rang and rang. So I then rang him at 9pm and it just rang and rang again! So I don't know what to think. His phone is switched on so he must have recently charged it, and my text messages delivered to his phone.

So the next stage is e-mail. I emailed him late last night simply saying that I had to use his deposit as this months rent, and as he hasn't contacted me I am assuming that he doesn't want to come back and lodge with us, and if that is the case there are no hard feelings. I told him that we will start looking for a new lodger to move in on 1st October unless we hear from him in the meantime.

So now we have to wait for an email back!

I am assuming he is alive and well as his phone is on and he would have to be alive to charge it??!! If his phone had been stolen the thief wouldn't use his sim card.

He is a contract painter and decorator and most of his work is down here, my husband thinks work has dried up down here thats why he hasn't been back but who really knows......

I'll keep you posted, in the meantime if anyone has any other ideas please put them forward!

    Still no news...

The phone we used to ring him was my husbands (lodger doesn't have his number - he only has mine). My husband was called by a witheld number and when my husband answered the person hung up so we think it may have been him.

    The plot thickens....

It sounds a good idea to have a lodger but in my experience its been a bl...dy nightmare. Never, never, never would I entertain renting a room again.
