    Probably fine, on holiday, changed jobs/location temporarily ... and will wonder what the fuss is about as his stuff is in the room, so "obviously I was coming back and would give you the rent then"

    They really aren't used to thinking about others.

    I'd put in a missing person's report just in case because if something has happened the family would be upset to know you didn't alert authorities and it would look a bit poor given you shared a home with him.

    "someone parked on my drive" thread from a couple of weeks ago.

    You know, the OP gets 100's of replies, 1000's of views everyone wonders what has happened and they end up saying "by the way the lodger is back now"
