T-mobile plan upgrade dilemma
Options
I am on the discontinued T-Mobile 250 Plan, which gives me 250 mins, unlimited texts and unlimited 3G internet for £19.43 a month.
I have always been pleased with this deal, but upon calling up to get a new phone as my 2 year deal has expired I discovered that it is literally better than anything they can offer me - all deals now are on 4G and cost more, and the plan I am on does not exist anymore (yet I am still on it!)
I guess my question is, how long do you think I could stay on this 'discontinued' plan until I'll be kicked off by EE/T-mobile? And what is my best option if I also want a new phone - buy the phone and put my existing SIM into it?
Thanks for the help!

I would always be wary of the "free phone" packages, basically you are buying the phone on finance over 2 years. Buying a SIM free phone outright (provided it's not an iPhone from CPW or Argos that locks to the network of the first SIM inserted) will give you maximum flexibility to change networks if there is a better deal.
Your current deal may continue for some time on a 30 day rolling basis, only you can decide if and when it's worth jumping ship. The "unlimited" 3G might in reality be limited by a fair use policy, making the package less of a good deal.
If you have more than one phone user in the house consider the packages which include a bundle of minutes between yourselves, for example 3 currently offer for free, 2000 3 to 3 minutes for each phone/SIM when taking out 2 contracts in the same name.0 -
I am also on an expired T-mobile deal, only 70 mins of calls, unlimited sms and unlimited 3G data, think the cost is around £12 a month.
My contract expired many years ago, maybe five or so, I have never had any contact with T mobile, the contract just seems to carry on. Yes I have upgraded my phone in that time, cut down my sim and it is currently in an iphone 4s. But it is getting near a new phone time again0 -
At close to £20 per month, I'd be looking for new phone from EE.
How much data do you actually use? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
When you say cut down your SIM do you mean literally cut it down so that it fits in an iPhone?
When you get a new phone will you just switch the SIM over again?
That's great by the way, and gives me hope I can just continue on my deal
A bit off topic but any suggestions as to a good phone upgrade for a Samsung S4?0 -
Heng Leng, I use a lot - around 5GB a month. Mainly because I know I have unlimited internet so I don't tend to bother to switch to wifi when I'm at home!0

Well they couldn't offer me anything close to that value with their new 'upgrade' deals!0

You do understand that if he wants to stay on T-Mobile he CAN'T upgrade?
They'll be quite happy to do him an upgrade which will entail a new EE contract as EE no longer sell new T-Mobile or Orange contracts for anyone.====0 -
I am aware that they are phasing the brands out but understood that existing customers could keep their plan - this may no longer be the case.
When a family member's contract was past its minimum term (on Orange) EE said they could keep the tariff and get a new handset but remain 2G/3G only. You do understand that if he wants to stay on T-Mobile he CAN'T upgrade?

The brands are gone, if you want to upgrade now it is only to an EE contract. If you wish to stay on the old ring fenced contract you cannot upgrade. It's the customer's choice, keep the old plan or upgrade to EE for a new handset.====0
