Hi

Wonder if anybody can help.

I have had both keys for my car go faulty and repaired one. This is now going faulty again!

I am being quoted £140 for a new key including coding. I have got a key of ebay but understand they cannt be coded to another car. Is this the case?

Or does anybody know where I can get a new coded key cheaply.

Thanks

Did the repair have any guarantees or warranties associated with it?

  • Hi

Are you sure it is not a fault with the Electronic Control Unit which are prone to failure.

Starts with not being able to overide alarm.

A temporary key code can be obtained from main dealer for a tenner inc vat till it is sorted it out. (I.D proof needed).

The code needs inputting manually depending on the model

No there were no guarantees with it, unfortunately.

It's definitely not the ECU - that's been checked out.

The problem is the key itself - just to explain further, it's one of these credit card type of keys - the local Renault dealer wants to charge £140.

  • Hi Sally,
Sorry but the key card can not be recoded... the only way to get a new card is from a renault dealer.

You can howerver get your card/s repaired. Take a look here:

    http://www.keyrepair.co.uk/index.htm

I haven't used the service myself (yet!!!) but i have read reviews on other forums which highly recommend it.

The site also tells you in detail why you shouldn't buy second hand key cards from ebay etc... in the FAQ section.

    Hope that helps.

  • Sally, do not keep your key near your mobile in your bag as that can stop it from working.

I have used this excellent service. Very quick turnaround. Superb job.

And at £20.00.... very cheap compared against new card.

To repeat... DO NOT BUY A SECONDHAND KEY. THEY CANNOT BE REPROGRAMMED.
  • Hi i live in london as was more than happy when i found these guyz on the internet www.keycardrepairservice.co.uk i only lived a few miles away,so i took my laguna key cards in & they repaired them while i waited, very cheaply, just aswell really as i nearly ordered two new ones from renault at a cost of nearly three hundred pounds in the end i got away with fifty pounds for the two of them,a nice saving of two hundred & fifty pounds.Thats what i call money saving.
