Unaddressed leaflets and mail
For unaddressed leaflets, flyers and other junk, the Royal Mail has the online door-to-door opt-out, which will stop it delivering to you. Bear in mind this stops all unaddressed items from being delivered, including Government leaflets.
It takes about six weeks for the items to stop arriving, and should last for two years. You'll need to opt out again after this.
Post: Print this form and post it to: Freepost ROYAL MAIL CUSTOMER SERVICES.
Email: optout@royalmail.com and you'll then be sent a form.
Phone: 0345 774 0740
The above is from the stop cold calls etc section.
I filled in the form about Feb time and still getting junk mail sent by the postie. Some weeks, I have more junk mail than other stuff for the recycling mail.
How to make sure RM does not fill my mail box with loads of rubbish?

I just throw it all in the recycling bin and don't lose any sleep over it, Frustrating that you completed a form but it could have got lost in the Royal Mail system somewhere as do lots of other items.0

Tell me about it, I had a two year battle with RM. I did eventually manage to get it stopped but whenever our normal postman went on holiday, it started again. RM then said they would put a large label in the sorting office near the pigeon hole for our street. This seemed to work, then a few months ago, more junk. It seems you have to reregister every three years.
At the height of my problem I would just post all the junk back in used envelopes sent to a freepost address in Plymouth - see how they like it. I believe it does take a couple of months to kick in after you have registered but February to now should be OK!!0 -
AIUI there are 2 sorts of JM
1. Un-addressed "The occupier" type stuff that doesn't have a stamp & that Rm get a bulk fee for posting with regular post.
2 Addressed or un-addressed junk that has had a stamp put on it
You can opt out of the 1st but RM are legally obliged to deliver any post that has had a stamp put on it.
If your still getting the 1st then, as Stevie & Le Kirk said, the forms been lost/labels have been cocked up so just have another go0 -

In the grand scheme of things this is a very trivial matter. If the Post Office offers a service then they should be able to fulfill it, but you have to think "what a useless waste of time and money service" - if you don't want the junk mail just throw it in the bin - unopened.
Also, not all junk mail comes from the post office - local restaurants, churches and businesses may also deposit items through your letter box.IITYYHTBMAD0 -
To those that post it back or mix it up .... why?
It is pretty childish ,,,,,, it wastes time and costs the service money. I wonder how much extra is being put on a stamp to handle the childishness of such people? Maybe grow up a bit and we could all save a few pence.IITYYHTBMAD0 -
As much as I don't want junk mail coming through my letter box, I accept it from Royal Mail because it keeps the posties in a job. If they didn't get any revenue from bulk deliveries then the business would fold. There are a lot of people who live in isolated areas who depend on the post being delivered, personal mail, working from home, community groups, etc.
I can put up with the mild irritation of receiving unsolicited mail. It goes straight into the recycling box which is collected by the council, and I forget about it. As for having a two year battle with RM to get junk stopped, how silly to stress yourself out about it.

PS. Posties don't just deliver the mail, some people who live alone see them as a reassuring friendly face every day. Our posties are great, friendly, chatty, happy, I wouldn't want them to lose their jobs.I love skip diving.0 -

This has nothing to do with the Post Office.0 -

Couldn't agree more. How people can get their panties in such a knot over such a minor issue is beyond me. There's a world out there where all this excess energy could be put to good use on real problems.0
