PSL - Coastalchick is right...you do not know the circumstances she obtained the bag. It might be on a credit card, a whimsical purchase, it might be she paid way over the odds for it. Try not to be jealous, material things are a luxury - you don't need an expensive bag, you just want it and sadly on our debt free journeys wants and needs have to be very strictly controlled.

Yes we should occasionally treat ourselves or the journey would be very boring and unfullfilling but a treat budget should mean we then don't feel guilty about a treat.

Sorry I haven't really been on here, had a lot going on myself and just been plodding on to keep reducing my own levels.

If you can stay out of your overdraft then that will be an added bonus as many banks are now starting to charge daily fees rather than a monthly one which in my case is going to work out more expensive ...however Lloyd's to be fair are helping me with that and through sad circumstances am hoping I can clear it once and for all before their offer of reduced fees for three months is over (although would have preferred not to be in that situation through the way it will happen)

  • Awww I'm sorry to see that StokieBecks.
Can you balance transfer to fill the overdraft. Think you helpfully suggested this to me some time ago. Tesco and (I think MBNA) let you do a money transfer and treat the same as a balance transfer which might be useful.
Hope you can get things balanced.
Life can be very unkind and sometimes there are no answers.

  • Hiya, just dropping in to say hi! I've read from start to finish and it looks like you've been doing really well so far, especially since you're up against some challenges with socialising and travelling in and out of London most days. Will carry on reading with interest! DSL
  • Thanks DSL. I always feel a bit sorry for people that have read everything from the beginning! So apologies for boring you and Also the lack of movement!
It will come together but taking time and is quite hard.
I have been thinking that I have too many friends. I used to have very few and that was good for spending but recently things have got busier and social circle has become much bigger with more going on.
Which sounds much better than only having a few friends but is draining the finances. I have a plan.

What you have to think about how many are friends and how many are acquaintances? I know that may be hard especially as you live in such a lively place.and don't want to be letting people down .

Anyway if you have a plan, that's good . What's the plan for this week PSL ?

You have had some good weather this week hope you enjoyed it .

I looked at a handbag in a fantastic leather shop in Cornwall. It was £85, probably not expensive to many but my handbags are £14.99 from Brantano. I smelt and stroked the leather and then put it back and walked out of the shop.

I don't need a new handbag. I would have loved to buy it but I'd rather spend the £85 on something else or pay off my debt.

    Enjoy your week.

    .

I think this is an interesting comment and one I have pondered over the years as friendships come and go. Some have stuck and the older I have got the more brutal in that if someone I perceive drains me and I do not enjoy their company the happier I am to just let the friendship go. The closest friends I have (and it is a fairly small circle) I would do anything for and we have gone through good and bad times together.

Similarly with work social dos. Some of my work colleagues I do socialise with but I do not feel the need to go to every event, not only from a cost point of view but also time. Life is too short to spend it with people you don't really have an awful lot in common with or who don't enrich your life in any way.

I think if I was the "friend" out with PSL earlier on in the week with the lovely new leather handbag I might hesitate to brag about it with someone who also likes these kinds of things but does not have the budget for it at the moment. Do these people really enrich your life PSL?

Sorry to steal your page PSL but wholeheartedly agree with the above comments. I have 5 close friends who never let me down etc. I don't bother with work things unless I actually like and know the person/people who will be there . . Maybe it's an age thing ! Maybe something for you to ponder on PSL.
