Two income household: 2xTax + 2xNI

Hi,

My wife and I both work. We are new to the UK. Some questions regarding our deductions
My payslip shows
Tax: £830
Employee NIC: £370
Employer NIC: £545

My wife's payslip shows
Tax: £425
Employee NIC: £300
Employer NIC: £350

My questions are:
1. Combined we pay £1255 in tax. Is there some credit/rebate we get for being a dual income household.
2. Combined we and our employers pay £1565 in NIC. Again do we get get some credit/rebate for being a dual income household? What do I get for my contributions to NI?

thank you

    1. No.

    2. No. You get access to the national health service, and possibly a pension,I assume, depending on your residency and how long you live here.

tax and NI are paid on an individual basis and not per household

Also NI potentially gives access to unemployment benefits and illness/disability benefits.

What did you get in the country of your birth? Did you get a rebate on tax and your equivalent of NI where you came from?

If that's an annual total then you are paying next to nothing in and getting a lot of benefits out.

    These are monthly figures.

Salaries of £52k and £36k per year.

Do you realise that puts you really high up in household incomes in the UK? You're probably in the top 96% of the country for income.

As the others have said: No and no.

The system for tax/NI works on an individual basis.

I think the OP is unsure of how PAYE operates in this country.

This link will provide a basic introduction. PAYE & NI
