  • Yes, contactless is the way to go. It saves you the pain of having to remember four digits and holding up the queue for five seconds.
Or is it that, if people notice you putting in your PIN, they will immediately check whether you spent under or over thirty quid and, if it’s under, will snigger and think you inferior because you obviously only have a basic account.

I've been with HSBC about 13 years.

When my debit card renewed in February last year I was fully expecting a Contactless card. It was early in the roll out process but counter staff had been mentioning it to me.

I didn't get one and apparently they are for select HSBC customers only, and is very much subject to status.

I have just asked now if they would issue me a new debit card early, with Contactless, because I have it recently on one of my CCs and really like it.

Tesco Bank gave me one without asking a few months ago on their Current Account. Santander in Jan 2016 (Everyday Current Account) did not.

HSBC gave me a contactless card in March 2016. I'm not a special customer. I only have a tenner in my account at the moment. :rotfl:

Santander and Co-operative are the only two banks that haven't given me a contactless card. My Co-operative card is quite old and due to be replaced next month. Perhaps that will be contactless.

I think all Tesco Bank cards are contactless.
  • I haven’t got any cards that aren’t contactless, but I don’t think I’d be particularly bothered if they were.

    ..

The poll was very skewed too there was no NO option!
I know, that second option might as well read "I don't know how to vote yes" or "I needed a second option to make it a poll, so just for show as how can anyone not vote yes"

If a bank chooses not to give contactless on an account whether a basic one or not, its up to the bank. If as a customer you don't like it, then swap, there is no right to contactless. Just like some basic accounts don't allow CPA set up or online payments (no CVV). You can always choose to move banks.

I didn't think grandparents could open a Junior ISA for their grandkids or did you mean you gave them money for their parents to do so?

    (Belated answer I know!)

YES grandparents can open a Junior ISA for their grandchildren. As I stated, we did that with 3 of them, all since matured and passed to bank accounts. The third and youngest, had a 5 year fixed plan, now matured and transferred to mum to add to another 5 year plan. ISA's now make less than a fixed plan, if the child is young enough to have a fixed term plan.

Please take a look at facts before making erroneus assumptions.

And I am a dinosaur, but I love having a contactless, so does Mrs. dinosaur. ;)
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

Only if they are a guardian with parental responsibility.
  • I have a Lloyds classic account and my debit card isn't a contactless card - but I have android pay which in effect makes the card contactless and seems to be verified each time.

I have a Lloyds Basic account and I'm chuffed to bits it's not contactless :D. I would hate to lose the card and have some light-fingered scallywag hit my account for lots of sub £30.00 purchases before the bank cancels the card.

Contactless cards are issued for the benefit of the retailer to speed up transaction times not the cardholder. If you haven't got the time to enter a four digit PIN number then you have serious time management issues !

My Halifax account is basic and doesn't have the contactless facility either.

Mainly because contactless is often an offline transaction. Basic accounts are online transaction only so you can’t overdraw the account.
