No Contactless Card on Lloyds Bank Basic Account

That's because the majority of UK retailers are set up to perform offline contactless transactions not online ones. Offline transactions are much quicker. However, offline transactions are no good for basic bank account customers as there is no check that the money being spent is available in the account.I've never experienced this and I have done hundreds of contactless transactions and they have all either gone through in a few seconds or asked for a pin.0

I had an online contactless transaction refused in seconds today in Waitrose when I used the wrong card accidentally. Didn't seem too slow.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200

At this point I think we're just assuming basic bank accounts that come with contactless cards will have an 'online only' variant of contactless enabled. I guess in this case we are also assuming the reason for the failure was that an online connection was made and the balance was found to be insufficient. That might not be the actual reason. For example, the failure could have been due to Waitrose not having an online connection at the time. It would be interesting to compare the speed of a successful transaction using a basic debit card vs. a standard debit card.I have a Barclays Basic account Debit Card so presume it's online?0

Ive just switched to a Barclays Basic Account from Lloyds, because my Lloyds basic account had no contactless card - but I've not long received my Barclays Basic Account debit card which is contactless and looks identical to the cards issued on their full current account, plus I'm able to have a personalised debit card too if I want. buzzing.0

I've been with HSBC about 13 years.
When my debit card renewed in February last year I was fully expecting a Contactless card. It was early in the roll out process but counter staff had been mentioning it to me.
I didn't get one and apparently they are for select HSBC customers only, and is very much subject to status.
I have just asked now if they would issue me a new debit card early, with Contactless, because I have it recently on one of my CCs and really like it.
Tesco Bank gave me one without asking a few months ago on their Current Account. Santander in Jan 2016 (Everyday Current Account) did not.0

Well I can only report my experience with my Starling bank debit card that online contactless transactions are pretty much instantaneous.
How do I know? Well, I tap my card against the reader to pay and almost at once get a notification on my phone 'you have spent xxx at yyy' and if I check my account the debit is there.0

For heavens sake, does it really matter. So many banks provide you with contactless cards, its not a big deal to just open a new account with a new provider.0

I just opened a basic account with Lloyds and the debit card I was sent is most definitely contactless.0
