If the update works, all pics and videos are kept. Beware that if you hit the top-right-close window button of the "schedule" pop up the update WILL take place.

2 ways to cancel the update once its started :- decline Terms&Conditions; or you have 1 month to go back if you don't like it.

The upgrade is supposed to leave all of your files intact.
However, it would be a good idea to make a backup copy of them, but that's a general principle, not specifically required for the update (because hard disks will and do break!).

If they are deleted, just restore them from one of your backups. :)
Think, how would I get them back if my machine breaks and is unrepairable?

    Or, 'long story short'. :)

Nice (incorrect for comic purposes) use of the word literally!! Like it.

Long story short, use the app Never10 and Windows 10 will stop bothering you.

Where did I say I was getting nagged to take Win 10? :)

I've been running Win 10 in various forms on a 2006 Dell laptop since the Technical Preview became available.
On my main PC, I've been using the program (not app) GWX Control Panel, since it first appeared.

Still alive and kicking, spud17,

And indeed that is exactly what it does, as unofficial IT support to friends and family I seem to have ended up putting / babysitting several machines of various configurations through the upgrade, in addition to my own and various test platforms at work.
