Target discount on a new VW car?

I am thinking of buying a new Volkswagen Golf from an authorised Volkswagen dealer. I have used the configurator on the Volkswagen UK Web site to configure the car I want and determine the on the road manufacturer’s recommended retail price (OTR MRRP). The car will have to be factory built because of the options that I have chosen, so it can’t be supplied from stock. It will be a cash purchase.

Does anyone know how much discount on the OTR MRRP I might typically expect to get from a Volkswagen dealer?

Yes, but using carwow.co.uk, would I be able to specify precisely all the options that I require? I can't imagine that it has a complete configurator for every car in the market.

Are you serious? How can you be so precise?

    Try here:

I think they do have a configurator for every car on the market. ;)

Once you get a confirmed e-mail quote from broadspeed you go to your local dealer and ask them to match it.

You may have to shop around a few dealers and perhaps travel to collect the car - but that's the only way to get the best deal.

Aim for around 20% off in total.

    Good luck.

of course with Carwow, Drive the Deal etc you can state spec required. What planet are you on? VW supply these cars too, the fleet departments rather than the retail. You don't get all the frills but then you arent paying for all the frills either.
You will also have access to PCP, etc. so can benefit from associated discounts and then pay the loan off.

I've found drive the deal to be pretty competitive, and usually around the cheapest of the online brokers. You can get a price for the car with all the options you want.

As they are a broker all they do is pass your order to a main dealer who will then deal direct with you - no hassle when I bought my Audi, and the car was delivered on a transporter to my door.

If you get a price from their website just take it to your dealer and ask them to match it, but in my experience they will tell you they cant do it for that price etc etc, so then just order from DTD
  • I rang round a few years ago when I bought a new Scirocco. The best deal I got was from the main dealers in Merthyr Tydfil (Capitol VW) so travelled from Sheffield to pick it up. Can't remember how much I saved but they beat all the online brokers and we had a nice weekend in Wales :)

Why not try and see, it seems to have all the options the last time I looked. Also, try drivethedeal.com.

Presumably you spent the weekend in Abergavenny, Brecon or somewhere similar, Merthyr for a weekend is a challenge.
