Where does the 8:10 bus fill up with school kids? Could you cycle away from work to a bus stop where it wouldn't already be full on the days you need to?But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

I was wondering about other options, too. a 15 miles bike ride is a long way, but a 2 mile bike ride to the station might be much more manageable.
Or if you could manage a bit further, Oldland Common to Newbridge Park and Ride is about 6 miles, and the Park and Ride runs very frequently and starts at 6.15 in the morning, so you can decide how to time it to ensure that you are on time.
I appreciate that it is difficult for you, but showing up on time is a fairly important part of most jobs. It's not unreasonable of your employer to expect you to be there, and it does sound as though they have been pretty flexible, they've been willing to try alternatives and they're giving you the opportunity to improve rather than simply telling you that it isn't working and giving you notice. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -
Where/ how you live/ your transport arrangements aren't really any concern for your boss. Yes some companies are willing to be flexible with start/ finish times but often in customer facing jobs this isn't possible. Your bosses obviously tried it but have decided that the business needs someone there at 9 am.
Are there no other buses at all, even if it means you have to go earlier? Are there other buses on other routes you could get to easily?
I don't know your living situation but could you rent a room during the week or consider relocating ( obviously it depends on what employment there is in the centre)?
It sounds horrible being limited by public transport but o guess if you want the job you need to make it work somehow.
It sounds like your liftshare is working o.k so far so hopefully it will only be odd ocassions you need to make alternative arrangements?
Good luck

They don't need to compromise- start time 9.00 am. Not mostly, always. You may be terrific at the job but they still need a 9.00 am start.
Btw, you will always face this problem unless your next employer offers a later start or 'flexible' work pattern.
There's no contract stating 9am and they did indeed agree to a later/flexible start time from what the OP stated above. Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.0 -
Incidentally, you're entitled to a contract and to know your working hours.
Your employer should have provided you with a written statement within 2 months of you starting:
www.gov.uk/employment-contracts-and-conditions/written-statement-of-employment-particulars
Sadly some people seem to believe that employers have no legal obligations. They have many from day 1 and these increase over time. Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.0 -

And then they unagreed to it. In other words they tried to be accommodating but for whatever reason, they decided it didn't work and went back to the initial terms of the employment, so I don't see that as unfair.
As before, they do need to sort that contract out, if they don't already have a standard contract in place, there are plenty of trade associations that offer them at a very reasonable price.0 -
A contract doesn't need to be in writing for it to exist.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

And the provision of the statement of written particulars can only be acted upon in conjunction with another legal claim. So it is not really considered a significant issue.
I think that this boils down to a single clear issue. The employers made it clear from the start what business hours they operated and needed someone for. They attempted to be accommodating to someone who ended up not being able to do that, and this doesn't work out for their business requirements, so they have clearly stated what those are and their expectations. I find nothing weird about this. What I find weird is an employee who thinks that employment should fit around themselves and what they want.0 -
Ive only ever been late once and that was when i was knocked over. My boss was fine with it and even tried to insist i took the rest of the day off (paid too). Been working now for about 13 years. The people i have worked with who regularly arrived late (whatever the reasons) didnt ever last too long im afraid.
Its a bit different than being late every couple of weeks.
I should think so!0 -
