Unfortunately I can't do that, as I mentioned I have debts that I'm paying off, i live on £60 a month at the moment, so that won't even get me a license. PLUS I work in Bath - No one drives into central bath, its havoc. Nearly everyone gets the park n ride, which would be the same old relying on buses woe. Thanks for the suggestion tho!0 -

I guess I didn't get a taxi because I am abhorrently poor and a taxi would have cost £25.00 for the sake of 10 minutes difference. Maybe if it was going to be this big an issue in hindsight I would have.
I guess I'll see how the monitor goes now. - I think I was more surprised that they'd rather hire and train a new person for months to do my job than accept I may be late every once in a blue moon.
If what you are saying is true, you haven't been late only once in a blue moon. You say that you can get lifts for 95% of the time, however the other 5% you seem to be at risk of being late due to the travel situation.
Whilst I appreciate you are trying your best, this would mean you are late for work approx. once a month based on the fact you can get a lift 95% of the time.
From a purely business point of view, I can see why they may sooner hire and train a new person - you say you have brought in all these new procedures and really cleaned things up, and have only been there since October last year so you have been there 6-7 months so looking at it like that it isn't a lengthy training process based on the fact that you got up to speed and implementing new process at this stage - it would be just as easy to train someone else up to do your job and eradicate the lateness.
These people are running a business, they aren't your friends, you expect too much from them to think they actualy care, they just want you to work full stop and need you there for the hours that you applied for. If you couldn't get there in the first place, then maybe you should consider this before applying for the job - this sounds harsh but it isn't intended to be - you have landed yourself in this situation, and you cannot blame them
I really think the conversation about monitoring could well be a warning shot and honestly if I were you I would look for work much closer, approach agencies etc, BEFORE they give you the boot. With love, POSR0 -
What I don't get is ... why are they now unilaterally reneging on a mutually-agreed arrangement (10.00 - 5.30)? How does it not suit them now yet it did previously?
OP - one thing to be careful of; as you've been there less than 2 years then they can let you go for no reason at all - even more so since you don't have a formal contract. (Get that sorted ASAP).0 -

It's not once in a blue moon if you lose your lift though, it's every day. Because unfortunately you flagged up to them you couldn't even manage 3 days on time without your lift.
If there are any problems while they are monitoring, don't even tell them about them. Just get a taxi in. The less they think or know about your travel situation from here, the better it is for you.0 -

I presume you could get there earlier for the park and ride though. Not everyone working in Bath gets in after 9am.0 -

I don't know the practicalities in your area but your income will go down considerably and your debts will get worse if they sack you because of your unpunctuality.
Given that you don't have a licence though, how did you get to other jobs before this one?0 -
You say you are late between 5 and 10 times a year. Doesn't sound much but that could be nearly once a month and as an emplover that would annoy me.0

They don't even need a reason to dismiss OP, as she has worked there for less than 2 yearsIf you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
I've always managed with walking / the bus. I guess this particular route is just bad - its further to go I suppose.
I thank everyone for their suggestions and advice, and although some of it feels harsh unfair I guess you are right at the end of the day, if I can't be on time they'll get someone else. I think I will take onboard the taxi suggestion for next time, even if it means I'm just treading water, at least I'm employed.0 -

I live on the edge of Bristol in a place called Oldland common, the buses here are very infrequent with many being once every hour. The earliest bus I can catch is 8.10 however this is also the school bus and usually it is completely full and will drive past me so I catch the 8.40 bus which is usually empty and picks me up.
...
Is your workplace within walking distance of either Bath or Oldfield Park railway stations? By my reckoning, Oldland Common is roughly 2 miles from Keynsham railway station (depending on where you are in Oldland Common, obviously). According to National Rail Enquiries there are trains from there to Bath at 07:56 and 08:19. Both take 10 minutes to reach Bath.
I don't know if there are any buses which don't work to Bath but do to Keynsham. You could find out easier than I can as you know the area much better. Alternatively, a taxi to Keynsham and a train to Bath may work as a backup plan for if your lift is not available, as it would probably be cheaper than taxi all the way.
If you do this, I would also ask your lift to let you know by latest 07:30 in the morning if they suddenly can't make it (illness etc). That would give you time to get a taxi sorted and make the train.
The job and boss issues, I'll leave to someone else.0
