Further news update on latest info on WHD Scheme 2016/17.
After personally phoning each of the 'Big 6', either direct to their Sales Team, or to the people who handle the WHD Scheme within each company; I have been given the 'same' statement by '5' of them. That is; the WHD Scheme 'HAS' been verified and passed for continuance by the Government, and 'WILL' run for a further '4' years; 'repeat', that is '4' years.
The 'ONLY' one of the 'Big 6' dragging their heels is 'Scottish Power', and giving out 2 excuses; [1] that the Government Dept who deal with the WHD Scheme was dissolved and swallowed up into a different Dept due to the 'shake up' by the new PM, so they are not sure if it 'will' run again for 2016/17; and [2] that they B]SP[/B have 'not' heard from the Government Dept if it 'has' been given the go ahead and they B]SP[/B have 'not' as yet been given authorisation to state it has the 'all' clear to offer it again to their present customers, or to prospective customers!
So my personal advice would be at present to stear clear of them altogether, SP that is!
If you are part of the 'core' group you will not have to apply again if your energy provider has you registered for it and you have in the past 5 years had the money added to your account.
Each of the '5' [excluding Scottish Power of course], have informed me that 'registration interest' will be displayed as information on 'all' their individual websites, either within the months of 'August' or 'September'; so everyone will need to check back with them during those months. [That is if you are a customer with any of the 'Big 6' of course]...End of News Update.

British Gas informed me today, Wed 13 July 2016, that they 'will be' continuing with the scheme for a further 5 year period; so, seems it's a Government go for at least the 'major 6' energy companies.
Cheers and Beers.

Hello dinger3 and welcome to the Forums.
Excellent update. Our website is certainly one of the best places to look for information about how we're handling the scheme. This is where news about this will appear first. We're hoping to have more definite details on there by the end of the summer.
As I posted earlier, I'd advise our customers to register. This will make sure they'll receive an application form once the scheme opens. This can be done online through our website or over the phone.
I'll update this thread again once I've more information.

Afternoon all. I've recently posted information about our Warm Homes Discount scheme 2016/17. As promised, thought I'd just update this thread with the gist of the details.
Our Warm Home Discount scheme is now open. It opened yesterday, 1 August 16. Customers will now be able to apply under the Broader Group for the payment of £140 for 2016/17. Payments will be made by 31 May 17.
We’ll start to contact customers who’ve already registered their interest from this week. We’ll send them either an application form or email a link to our online application form. Applications for the Broader Group are dealt with on a first come first served basis so best to send in applications as soon as possible. As in previous years, once we’ve reached a certain number, we’ll close this year’s Broader Group scheme. It’ll help if anyone applying can include their electricity account number.
Core Group customers, usually those who receive the guarantee element of Pension Credit, don’t need to apply. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will let us know who to pay the discount to. These customers will receive a letter from the DWP and the payment will automatically be made. DWP letters will start going out from September 16.
There’s more information about our Warm Home Discount scheme, including what’s needed to qualify, on our website.
Hope this is of interest. Please let me know if anyone needs any more details as happy to help.

Morning all and as promised, a quick update about our Warm Home Discount scheme.
We started making Warm Home Discount payments for 2016/17 on 17 October 16. These are under the Broader Group. We're aiming to make all Broader Group payments by 31 May 17. We'll confirm once the payment has been made.
We're still taking applications for 2016/17 under the Broader Group. Not sure when this will close. As above, there's a limit on how many applications we can take under this group. They're dealt with on a first come first served basis so, once we reach the limit, we'll close the scheme for 2016/17. I'd suggest anyone who thinks they're eligible but haven't yet applied do this sooner rather than later. There's more information including details of eligibility and an application form on our website. It's under 'saving energy' on the top ribbon.
Core Group customers have started to receive letters from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP). These began on Thursday, 13 October 16 and explain what will happen. It's important customers follow any instructions in these letters to make sure they receive the payment.
Hope this is of interest.

Hello bargainbunny and I'm sorry you're going through such a bad time. Hope things start to improve soon.
With the Warm Home Discount, I'm assuming by the priority group you mean the Core Group. Customers in this group automatically receive the £140 payment and don't need to apply. If you are in this group and we supplied your electricity on 10 July 16, we'll pay this. You'll receive a letter from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) to let you know what's happening. This letter will have a reference of either 'M' or 'U.' Where it's 'M' for matched, you'll receive the payment by 31 January 17. If there's a 'U' for unmatched, you'll need to contact the DWP by 28 February 17 to receive the payment before 31 May 17.
If my assumption is wrong and you're in the Broader Group, you'll need to apply to us for the payment. As above, there's more information including details of eligibility and an application form on our website. It's under 'saving energy' on the top ribbon. There are also some FAQs that might help.
It sounds like you've a prepayment meter. Here, if eligible, we'll send a voucher which can be used to put the money on the meter. The voucher is a letter with a bar code and can only be used at Post Offices. You'll need a valid ID.
When looking at our website, check out the Energy Company Obligation (ECO). This is a Government led scheme to help those who qualify with energy saving stuff like loft and cavity wall insulation.
Hope this helps bargainbunny. Let me know if you need any more information as happy to help. Best of luck, too, sorting out the other issues you mention.

Hello Everyone,
Just wanted to let you know that I believe that British Gas and Sainsbury's Energy are taking applications for this years Warm Home Discount. As Malc suggested, I'd recommend you call as soon as possible, as from what I've heard, last year it closed earlier than most expected due to a higher than normal level of applications.
Also, when you call any of the big six, I'd recommend that you also let the advisor know about any special requirements, for instance medical or young children, so they can look at additional ways of supporting you. For instance, you could be added to the Priority Service Register, which can be really helpful in the event of a power-cut - or if you struggle to read your meter, have an engineer read the meter more often.Thank you all for helping me make my day by saving money!0 -

Excellent advice SammenForLivet2. As in previous years, once we've reached a certain number of applications, we'll close the Broader Group scheme. Best our customers apply sooner rather than later as applications are handled on a first come first served basis. There are more details, including an application form, on our website.
Good advice, too, about the Priority Services Register. This helps us recognise vulnerabilities at properties that could be affected by a power cut or loss of gas supply. Again, there's more on our website about this.

Hello everyone and, as promised, an update on our Warm Home Discount scheme for 2016/17.
We're looking to close the scheme to new applications under the Broader Group on or around 2 December 16. After this Friday, 18 November 16, we'll no longer be sending paper applications. Online applications will continue until the above time. With the Broader Group, applications are dealt with on a first come first served basis. This might mean not all customers are successful even if they apply before 2 December 16 should our limit have been passed by the time we receive the application. If anyone thinks they're eligible but hasn't applied yet, I'd encourage them to do so now. As above, there's more information including an application form on our website.
All payments to successful applicants will be made by 31 May 17.
Hope this is useful.
