What's happened to the Warm Home Discount?
Hi everyone,
We've recently moved home and used to be with npower. We've yesterday changed our supplier to Sainsbury's Energy. We were hoping to apply for the Warm Home Discount as we are on low income, but both suppliers websites now say the scheme has closed.
Does anyone know why and whether it will reopen again?

They are closed for last year. Eon Web site says you can register your interest in the coming one, but it won't be ready till later on in the year. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Hi,
the qualifying date last year was 12th July.
If you google 'What's happened to the Warm Home Discount? ' you will get more information and a list of which suppliers are part of the scheme.0 -
Sainsburys and British Gas scheme will be open in the autumn this year. This is due to it being extended for another 5 years so the details are still being worked out re the criteria. I have been advising those with internet access to check from August just in case its earlier than the September we are advising callers to call back.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

You're right mackemps3. We closed last year's scheme (Broader Group) on 16 November 15. Looks like we're waiting on the Government for details of the 2016/17 scheme. Customers can, though, register their interest either through our website or over the phone. Once all's in place, we'll write to customers who've registered to let them know. We'll pop an update on our website as well.
At the moment, we're looking at sometime next month but this could possibly change. Not sure. I'll put this thread in my diary and let you know once I know. Hope this helps.

Quick update all. It appears we're still waiting on the Government for details of the 2016/17 Warm Home Discount scheme. We were hoping to have these by the end of this month but it's looking more like the end of summer now. As above, we'll put details on our website once we're able. I'll also keep updating this thread.
Hope this is of interest.

Afternoon all. As promised, another update on the Warm Home Discount scheme for 2016/17.
As the Warm Home Discount scheme has been delayed this year, we're contacting customers who received the payment in the last two years (Year 4 - 2014/15 and Year 5 - 2015/16) inviting them to register their interest either online or by calling us. Once the scheme opens, only the customers who've registered will receive an application form. Letters and emails started to go out earlier this week.
This is different from the way we've done things in previous years. As this year's scheme has been delayed and demand is expected to be high, we won't automatically send out applications to those who've applied in previous years. Once registered, we'll keep customers updated but those who don't sign up won't receive an application form and might miss out. For those who fall in the Broader Group, we can only offer the discount to a limited number on a first come first served basis. So, to have a better chance, it's best to register as soon as possible.
Don't worry if you've already registered for 2016/17. Provided your circumstances haven't changed, there's no need to register again. Any doubt, though, register again. Better to do a 'belt and braces' job than miss out.
Hope this helps. I'll continue to update this thread as I receive more information.

British Gas informed me today, Wed 13 July 2016, that they 'will be' continuing with the scheme for a further 5 year period; so, seems it's a Government go for at least the 'major 6' energy companies.
Cheers and Beers.
