Hi all,
I just tried to do a balance transfer from my AMEX to a Halafax card but I was informed that they can not do that with AMEX. Is there any 0% balance cards that do work with AMEX?
Thanks a mill
Les

Should be possible, did this fail online or over the phone. The Amex 15 digit card numbers don't match the 16 digit ones that visa and MasterCard use, have you spoken to someone at Halifax as they should be able to do it manually.0

Hi there,
Thanks for reply. It failed online so I phoned them and said it was not valid with amex.
It was strange because I told them it was an amex card and gave them all the details to try and process over the phone and it was not till the when they tried to put the transaction through that they said was not available with amex.0 -

It could be a poorly trained call centre employee, might be worth another call and if there are still issues ask them if you can speak to a supervisor.0 -
Try requesting the BT via online banking and throw a leading 0 (zero) in front of the Amex card number, so if your Amex card is 3759 xxxxxx 21001, enter 03759xxxxxx21001.0

I have used the Tesco credit card and Santander 123 credit card to successfully do a balance transfer from Amex (mine was the gold charge card one with 15 digits).
Barclaycard and Halifax credit cards did not work.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly, and I can move and merge threads there. Any views are mine and not the official line of moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Ah ok, so just to confirm, you did try to do a balance transfer from Barclaycard and Halifax but it did not work for you? That is interesting.

Yes, I tried it with Barclaycard and Halifax credit card both via online and when those failed, also over the phone. Was told it was not possible to do so on their systems and was to do with it being the 15 digits.
Is yours a charge card or a 'normal' Amex credit card with 16 digits?
I would be wary of trying to add a zero to the start of the card if yours has 15 digits, purely because what happens if the money is taken - but not applied to the correct card? Sounds like it could be more hassle than it's worth trying to chase each company and find out what happened to your missing money.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. I'm sure I did a transfer from barclaycard to amex (gold charge) last week and it went through OK (99.9% sure) but just tried to log on to check that it was all sorted and keep getting kicked out of B'card website even though I am sure I am putting in the right security details. The right amount is showing on the amex card though so it must have worked. Don't think I did anything in particular to make it happen.0

All Amex cards are 15 digits, whether credit, charge or prepaid, none are 16 digits.0
