I would be ashamed of myself if I ever 'wantonly struck down an old woman on the street'. :rotfl:
How do you know that I'm not an old woman myself?

And your comment is relevant to this thread because.......?

Because you started judging people based on behaviour you "could imagine" them doing.

    Ashamed for imaginary behaviour?!

How does the idea of not giving up your reserved seat result in you imagining the striking-down of an old woman?! :rotfl:

Maybe we should legislate so that a refusal to give up a reserved seat is considered GBH. Then we could lock up these terrible people who want to sit in their reserved seats long before they wantonly strike down old women in the street!

Try reading the post I quoted. Mine might make more sense to you then.

Yes, based on the tone of the replies postef by the OP.

I like children. I would much prefer to be sat next to a child than some drunk 18-30 holidaymaker/stag do and their numerous mates. I'd probably get a better conversation from the child too!

    I like children too.

In fact I like them so much that if I had one myself, I'd pay extra to make sure they were sat next to me.:p

I tend not to fly the routes favoured by stag & hen parties or 18-30s.

So you really don't have a clue about your own children?

It's just made up stuff you imagine?

I have no idea what this ^^^^^ means.

"Don't have a clue about my own children"?
    What children? :rotfl:

The ones who you would definitely pay extra to sit next to, if you had them. Even if you didn't have to pay extra to sit next to them, because airline policy meant they wouldn't let you sit anywhere else. You'd STILL pay extra to sit next to them.

Well, I'll inform you that regardless of any airtime policy I would put the care of any children I had above any budget I had
    And I guess you wouldn't.
So should I say 'shame on you, you vile person'?
You appear to have forgotten that the OP chose not to pay extra to sit next to his 2 year old.
The OP had no idea that it would all work out OK.
It could have been very different with a different airline.

I wouldn't have paid for something that would happen whether I paid or not, no. Send me £50 and I'll guarantee the sun will come up tomorrow. Why leave it to chance?

You can say "shame on you, you vile person" all you like. You'll only be showing yourself up further. This thread was posted as useful advice for anyone travelling with Thomson.

I'm not bothered if a screaming kid is plonked beside me alone because a parent made the choice not to pay. Headphones on, nice & loud.

Crying, struggling in the seat, getting out of it, no seatbelt if the sign goes on, whatever. Parents job to look after it first, steward/ess second, mine.........not AT ALL.

As a couple we choose to pay & I wouldn't swap without a fight, & a big fat dramatic lie about being a nervous flyer.

CAA advice is that airlines try to sit children with parents, or at least no further than 1 row apart. Note the word TRY, they are under no obligation & I've known it happen.
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.
