Not being funny - and I don't want to get kicked of old style with my head between by knees in shame, but have you ever tried making chocolate cake in the microwave?

It's very moist and is so simple.

My kids call it "5 minute chocolate cake" because it's so quick and easy and can be made off the cuff with no prep and no mess.

I just use all in the same bowl (mine's one of those pudding jugs from pampered chef - I won it) 4oz butter (melt it in microwave), 5 oz sugar, 2 eggs. Whisk all up. Then stir in 3 oz s/f flour and 1oz of cocoa. Stick in the microwave for 4-5 minutes and then serve with icecream, golden syrup, chocolate sauce or whatever you like. Serves 6 easily.

Does that sound really vile? I don't know, but it always gets eaten!

That was the one I was going to recommend too - it's lush.

    Hi again Guys,

God I'm going to end up on this OS thread every day at this rate asking for advice:o

I've made my first ever chocolate cake today - I am quite simply useless in the kitchen and am trying to now become Delia Smith:D

Anyway, this is what I made if anyone wants to try - it's pretty easy http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/3092/ultimate-chocolate-cake

Anyway, it is lovely but SOOOOOO rich. Now, that might be something to do with the fact that I used 72% Chocolate (green and blacks organic) and it says 60%, but supermarket only had 70, 72, 80 etc. Does anyone know where you can get a nice quality one with 60% cocoa.

Also, because of the ganache (cream) is it better to store in the fridge, rather than in a cake tin, possibly it may go off????

Thank you for your advice - I will be bursting out of my skinny jeans after sampling this one :D

Its good isn't it when you do it yourself  As for chocolate, I understand you can use any cooking chocolate which can be found in the baking aisle, which I guess is where you will be from now on! :D
  • Congratulations on your cake. I'm sure that it will not remain uneaten for long. But I make chocolate cakes with ganache and find they keep Ok for 2-3 days in the tin (don't last any longer in my house). Actually i just looked at the recipe you posted and they said 3-4 days.

Perhaps someone wle will know but I think if you refrigerated the cake you would have to wrap it well to stopo it drying out.

    Congratulations!

Because the cream in the ganache is heated, it should be fine at room temperature (as long as the room isn't too hot). It will dry out in the fridge. But best to eat it quickly just in case ;)
