The house may well be more unique than others. The point is that you do not need a "unique" house. You need "a house". So I would compare price to "a house you could live in". That particular house may be worse £500000 to someone who wants a particular feature, can not find it anywhere else and can afford it. That price is of no relevance to you. Out of interest - how much would the house you live in now cost ? By the sound of it you are happy with the house and it is renter status and price increases which you understandably object to.
Choosing and buying a house is an exciting time. Don't let frustrated estate agents to spoil it. :).
Please post what you find on tax , will be useful to know if I ever buy another house.
The word "dilemma" comes from Greek where "di" means two and "lemma" means premise. Refers usually to difficult choice between two undesirable options.
Often people seem to use this word mistakenly where "quandary" would fit better.

we had it valued before we started looking as we wanted to buy it from our landlord, we knew it would be expensive but three agents priced it at 480, 500 & 650, proportionally we pay less in rent than the mortgage would cost by a significant margin but it would have been out of our price range regardless.

Wow. No wonder you had rent increases. It is now more understandable you want the other house - with your budget you would have to move into something which is half the price of your present accommodation so may be difficult to find where you like as you used to more expensive option. Ah well. Please update us on what happened.
