Exploding shower door

I have also had problems with one of Better Bathrooms product. A Shower door which exploded when getting out of the shower. The door had been fitted since January and had operated without any problems but then with out any warning exploded causing cuts to my toes, hand, thigh and hand. The glass just shattered into a million pieces. The response I got from Better Bathrooms after explaining what had happened was that they would send a replacement door as a gesture of good will. Why would I want another door that possibly would do the same thing. I was suggested by their representative to accept the door and then sell it. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Why would I want to sell a potentially dangerous product. Unfortunately I didn't take any photographs of my injuries or of the shower door. I just left it that I would be taking further advice on the matter but any suggestions as to what I can do?

Accept the replacement door. They are complying with their legal obligations and providing a suitable remedy.

This does happen with a small percentage of shower doors. Happened to us.
It only takes a minor imperfection in the manufacturing and then at some point they just disintegrate.

They're sending a replacement. I suggest you ask them to send one of their engineers to fit it too.

    What else do you want?

I would like a full refund - my emails I sent were not answered for 3 days in which time we had purchased a shower door from another supplier because I didn't think I was going to get any response.

But thats not their problem.. you buying another door.

You're relying on their goodwill now.

What you want and what you're entitled to are two different things.

I've had something similar happen three times with drinking glasses. Two of the occasions I was emptying a dishwasher at work, and one minute a glass was in my hand, the next there were shards of glass everywhere. The other time I was on holiday in France and having lunch in a restaurant when the glass exploded as the waitress poured my drink in the glass. (It shocked her more than me!)

I've been told it's something to do with a temperature fluctuation. It's rare, (obviously not with me! :rotfl:) but can happen. There also could've been a weakness in the glass.

My point being - it could happen with anything, not just with the Better Bathroom stock...

Good luck though - hopefully you get a successful resolution.

Thanks for the replies and I am quickly becoming aware of what response I am likely to get. Why would I want another door that has exploded, I wouldn't have any faith in the product and definitely wouldn't want any other member of the family to experience it exploding when they were using the bathroom.

So you can guarantee that the replacement you bought won't explode?

I take your point but it just makes me feel a little better
