I googled the read line; https://www.gov.uk/renewing-your-tax-credits-claim

"You must renew your tax credits by 31 July 2016 if your renewal pack has a red line across the first page and it says ‘reply now’."

    https://www.turn2us.org.uk/About-Us/News/Don-t-forget-to-renew-your-tax-credits

"The renewal deadline is 31 July unless your renewal pack gives you a different deadline. Your renewal pack will have a red line across the first page if you need to send a reply."

I think it's there to draw people's attention to the fact that they have to reply. Maybe they should have put 'reply now' in big bold red letters instead as the line is a tad obscure.

I've no idea what they are doing with my tax credits. They overestimated my income by 3.5k. I called to renew last week and they have increased my payment this week by £8. I haven't received the award letter yet so I'll have to wait and see.

:( I've had a few compliance checks, I'm pretty sure some are random. Some are because HMRC spot a discrepancy when you renew, like if you say your income is lower that the real time information figure they have from your employer (because you work from home and have expenses).
  • Yes I think the red line is reply required as my was a black line and was check now no reply unless anything wrong.

I had compliance check last two years running

I submitted my self employed self assessment on 24th May. It reflects a short period prior to me claiming ESA and shutting my business. I also submitted my Tax credits renewal on the same day as I had received the P60U from ESA. Today I can see an extra payment going in Tuesday ( on top of todays bank holiday payment ) which is often an indicator that something has been ' actioned ' so if they have done it in that time scale that quickly - thats amazing ! Lol

  • Morning....

I've had my renewal pack and it's a 'don't need to reply' one. All other years I've had to reply so is this a new thing they are doing this year?

    Thanks.x

They always had "auto" renewals. They do change each year who gets these though.

    It's arrived.

    40to25to 22.
    Haven't done it online yet.

Thankfuly no overpayments hence the reduction as my wages have slightly changed since 2012 (and changing again from July this year)

I suspect I'lll need to use my wages amount from July.

A wee update from earlier, wage rises are not included if it's no more than 2.5k a year. :)

That's sorted online, and some e-chat advice from hmrc, Thanks Laura :)

Final figure prior to July 17 24.65 weekly. though it's a 'provisional' amount for 8-10 weeks.

I know renewal can take 8 weeks but just wondered if anyone else who had to renew (not auto renewal) is still waiting for theirs to be completed or for the award notice ?

I renewed 5th May and have always had it done in a few days. Obviously won't call until 8 weeks is up but strange it's taking so much longer than other years.
