I am not sure if this is the right place but I know everyone here is very helpful.

I have just been making rice crispy cakes for my nieces school fete and my OH suggested making orange ones by adding flavouring.

I know adding liquid to melted chocolate makes it go lumpy, however if I did the butter and golden syrup method would I be able to add orange flavouring that way?

Hi Sian - what butter and golden syrup method do you mean? I take it you don't have any orange flavoured chocolate? :)

the one where you add butter and golden syrup to the chocolate when you melt it.

I use just melted chocolate usually.

I don't have any orange chocolate but have been given a lot of milk chocolate by OH's mum

Ohhh... I think I'm out of my depth here. PIIIIIINNNNKKKKKKK?:rotfl:

Sorry, I don't have any experience of what you are doing, hence my silly replies. I am reading a link here which says you can add oil based flavourings directly to chocolate without it curdling. Is the orange flavour oil based per chance?

That link also offers suggestion to fix seixed chocolate by adding some solid vegetable fat.....

Sorry, thinking out loud, and looking it up just like i would for myself if I was doing it :)

    Hi sian,

I haven't tried it with orange flavouring, but I would think it would work ok with the butter and syrup method. The orange flavouring sounds like a nice twist, if you do try it please let us know how it went.

Hi I just wanted to share my new fave recipe as its fab!

9 cups of rice crispies (I used cheap ones from ALDI) its an american baking cup size 250mls

A third of a cup of maple syrup
2 thirds of a cup and 2 table spoons of honey
    A quarter cup of butter
    A pinch of salt
    2.5 teaspoons vanilla extract
quarter teaspoon of another flavour extract: almond, chocolate, orange etc

    Measure crispies into bowl

put all other ingredients into a deep pan and bring to the boil, once its on a foaming boil stir for two minutes - mind it doesn't boil over the pan and stir constantly

Pour mixture over crispies coat all the cereal then put in a 10x10 square brownie pan lined with foil and greased

squash firmly - use greaseproof paper and pack them down

    Cover with film/paper foil etc

put in freezer for 2 hrs and cut ino 16 squares

They will look a bit like this but without the white - you can top or drizzle them with chocolate and sprinkles etc.
You can replace the honey with brown rice syrup and the butter with margerine for a vegan version Nat
